Exclusive Cover Reveal and Giveaway: Under a Sky of Ash by Brandon Witt

First and foremost, I want to thank The Novel Approach for saving me some space to reveal the cover for my soon-to-be-released novel, Under a Sky of Ash.  And thank you to all of you who are popping by to see the cover for the first time.

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this book to exist, and I’m so very curious about people’s reactions.  You’ve often heard writers complain about how hard writing actually. And, it’s true.  I love it, but it’s true.  I’m sure you’ve heard the Dorothy Parker quote, “I hate writing, I love having written.”  Well, that rings so true for me.  Each day I sit down and write and I’m filled with self-doubt and terror.   Under a Sky of Ash has been the one exception.  The planning was a nightmare, but the writing itself was a pure joy.   I’ve never had a story flow from my fingers quite like this one.  It truly felt like I was nothing more than the conduit for Isaiah and Ben to tell their story.   I’ve yet to figure out how to explain this book without giving too much away, so I’ll let the blurb do the talking for me.  I will say that there is a good amount of angst in this novel (it’s one of my books, after all), but I will promise you upfront a HEA.

Anne Cain, who I worship, is the cover artist.   Showing my lack of faith, I was worried that she wouldn’t be able to capture the love I have for this book.  She did.  Outside of my first book, this is the only cover I received, opened the email, and started to cry.  It’s just perfect.   I hope you love it as much as I do.  And I cannot wait for you to fall in love with Isaiah and Ben (and ManDonna, the drag queen, who became one of my favorite all-time characters).

Blurb: More than a decade after leaving Colorado to attend college and escape his past, Isaiah Greene moves back and builds a life in Denver as a special education teacher. When he meets Ben Woods, the mentor of one of his students, the attraction is immediate. The revelations that they’ve both suffered traumatic childhoods form a bond between them.

Raised by an abusive grandmother, Ben is a recovering addict who has made a family with his construction worker boss, Hershel, and Hershel’s husband, Daniel—drag queen ManDonna. Adding Isaiah to his life gives Ben a glimpse of a future he’d never dreamed possible for himself.

Both Isaiah and Ben are survivors, but when guilt drives a wedge between them, the past threatens to end their relationship.

Ben and Isaiah embark on journeys of self-discovery. Though their path will be difficult at times, humor and love find a way to bring light to the darkness.

Witt-0025Brandon’s Author Info: Brandon Witt’s outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he’s got plenty to write about….

  1. Great cover it really fits the blurb, i love the branch with leaves and flowers and the light(sun)that shines through it. It gives me the feeling that that after the darkness there is hope.

I also like the fact that one of the main characters is a special education teacher. Having a son who was born premature and is multipled disabled because of brain damage i know how important their work is.
Good luck on your upcoming release on March 21th.
