Blurb: Benjamin Bentley and many other beloved characters from the Something Like…series make their triumphant return in this collection of short stories and bonus material. “Something Like Yesterday” travels to the past where Eric Conroy attempts to find love against a backdrop of intolerance and political upheaval. In “Something Like Fall”, Ben meets Jace’s family and tries to cope with many changes in the years that follow. Allison Cross finally gets her dues in “Something Like Tonight”, examining the relationships in her life during a girls’ night out. “Something Like Eternity” takes the series where it has never gone before as Victor Hemingway seeks out his ultimate destiny. Also included is a character guide and a timeline of key events thus far. Laughter and tears await you in this very special anthology!
Review: I just need to put this out there: This is a hard review to write. How do you write a review about a collection of stories that has been named a finalist in the LAMBDA Literary Awards, in the category of Gay Romance? Congratulations to Mr. Bell for this honor.
Kevin R. Free has narrated all of the Something Like… stories. Let’s just stop and think about that for a minute. This audiobook is over twelve hours long. Each of the audiobooks have been over ten hours each. I can’t even fathom how many hours he spent preparing for these audios and recording them. And let’s not forget the character voice development. Each character has their own voice—no two characters sound alike. I think that Kevin R. Free is a true talent. I think I need to say that louder—Kevin R. Free is a true talent!
If you are a fan of the Something Like… series you will enjoy reminiscing, as Jay Bell and Kevin R. Free take you on a journey and give some of the characters an ending, or, as I like to call it, the rest of the story. If I had a favorite it would have to be Something Like Eternity. Victor is my favorite character and Something Like Autumn is my favorite book of the series. To hear about Victor and knowing that he found his destiny was just amazing to me. Yes, I know they are characters in a story that Jay Bell created, but Victor is special. I see him every day, standing in front of my local convenience store smoking a cigarette.
Thank you, Jay Bell, for another great book, and thank you to Kevin R. Free for continuing to narrate these books. You are both incredibly talented in your crafts!
