Blurb: Dustin Walker has no idea that avoiding the search for Mrs. Right could send him into the arms and bed of Mr. Right Now. According to Dustin’s mother, he should be out looking for his next wife so he won’t be the divorced black sheep of the family. Instead, he passes his free time at a local bar and pool hall, where he meets someone who’s everything his ex-wife wasn’t: funny, caring, faithful…and male.
Is Brandon Stewart just Dustin’s way of getting over a bitter divorce? Can Dustin really care for him, or is it simply that Brandon is the complete opposite of his ex-wife? Dustin keeps their affair as quiet as possible, because if it continues, he knows he’ll eventually have to come out to his homophobic family or walk out on the man he’s trying not to love.
Review: Originally published in November of 2009, it took this book way too long for Rules of Engagement to come out in audio!
I have a lot of sentimental attachment to this book, as it was one of my first introductions into the M/M genre. When I am looking for a new book or audio, and nothing sounds good, I will re-read this book—it’s that good! So when I saw it had come in in audiobook, I just had to listen to it.
The problem with having read a book so many times is that I already had the voices cemented in my head, and they didn’t match the narrator’s choice of voices so it took me awhile to get used to it. But this audio is hot, blazing hot, and Dustin and Brandon, the main characters, have great sexual chemistry with whoever rubs up against them; even the girls are sexy. There are so many hot scenes, but I especially liked the military classroom tease—the handstand pushup and the many games of pool—but no girl action in this book, just hopeful thinking.
Was the audio as good as the book? I know, strange question, as the audio is the book, right? This expert audiobook listener says, no way. The audiobook was better! (Note: I am not an expert but, I have listened to over 100 audiobooks, so that should count for something.)
A good narrator adds dimension, character and emotion with his voice, and Nick J. Russo did just that. Great story, L.A. Witt, and superb narrating, Nick J. Russo.
