Enjoy!
Welcome to the next installment in the blog tour and giveaway for my newest release, Wolf en Garde. For those who don’t know, I’ve been introducing, and in some cases re-introducing, the characters that make up Wolf’s stories. For those who already know this, sorry for repeating myself, and welcome back!
I’ve always said that it’s the perspective of the main character that will determine the side characters within the story. What one person sees, experiences, or thinks about someone will definitely not be the same that somebody else does. For example, while Randy looked on Vaughn as a strong and silent sex-god, Lyle just saw Vaughn as his dad. And, like many of us grew up thinking (or maybe it was just me), he believed his father was an overbearing, overprotective, and extremely outdated man.
That was one of the cool things about switching perspective from a middle-aged, somewhat-privileged man (Randy), to a young man with so many wild ideas in his head (Lyle). The characters changed, the world changed, and the tone of the story changed.
Who is right, and who’s wrong? Maybe neither of them. Maybe they both really do see two completely different men…
But before I get into the teaser, just a reminder to read through to the end of the post to learn how you could win your very own signed, print copy of Wolf en Garde, a sterling silver (nickel and lead-free) Howling Wolf Bangle, and a $20 gift certificate to the Less Than Three Press book market. Just my little way of thanking you for your time and your company!
Tiny Teaser: Introducing – Vaughn O’Connell
While the conversation drifted to other ground, Lyle drifted out of it. It wasn’t until they’d arrived at the Connors’ place and Vaughn poked his head in Lyle’s temporary bedroom that Lyle got up the nerve to mention his gut feeling about Henry. He waved his dad in and shut the door before anyone could follow. “What do Randy’s parents know?” He licked his lips, eyed the closed door, and lowered his voice even further. “About us, I mean?”
“Nothing, I would assume.” Vaughn propped himself on the corner of the desk that Henry had so graciously, and with a fair amount of pride in his voice, informed Lyle had once been Randy’s favorite spot in the entire house. (“He learned a lot at that desk, kiddo. Yes, he sure did.”)”It’s not something most people would feel comfortable talking about. Even to close family.”
“I guess…” Lyle trailed off, frowned, and then shook his head. “He just seems to know more than you’d think a person should. Some of his comments make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.”
Lyle expected concern. He expected at least a moderate show of discomfort—something that would validate his own, at least.
Instead, Vaughn sighed. He raked his fingers through his hair. He suddenly looked worn down, exhausted even, and it looked like he felt even more than he was letting his face show. “When did you get so goddamn suspicious?”
The blood in Lyle’s veins seemed to run cold—blue flames of anger so cold that the cold burned worse than any heat could. He’d just made a simple statement, but it had been based on a feeling meant to be shared by two creatures that understood the concept of instinct. Creatures that should trust one another in that regard. At the very least, his concern should have been considered worthy of discussion. Vaughn was his father, for fuck’s sake.
Fine. Fuck him, then.
If that’s the way his dad wanted things, then that’s the way they would be. “When I found out the world wasn’t biscuits and belly scratches, Dad. But you didn’t have to go to Monster U, did you?” Lyle turned away and gave the contents of his suitcase a watery glare. “If you’ll excuse me, I should unpack.”

When Lyle comes across a seductive, attractive stranger with a fascinating yet terrifying view of humanity, he’s more than intrigued. It doesn’t take Lyle long to realize that Arius isn’t just playing games, though, and when Lyle runs across a secret in Arius’ lair he has no choice but to flee, even knowing his actions will enrage Arius.
On the run, with only a psychic’s second sight and his own instinct to help him, Lyle has nowhere to go but home. The only question is, will they have him when he shows up.

Until next time,

Right and wrong are such relative concepts… I guess in a relationship every body has his/her truth, and it is difficult to make the other member see our point of view.
Congratulations on the new release, AF. The book sounds really good.
I couldn’t have said it better, Susana. Thank you very much for joining the tour and leaving such a kind and honest comment. Best of luck with the giveaway! <3
Interesting post of perspective play on a storyline. I couldn’t help to feel sorry for Lyle, though I’m sure (hope) he’d found better match… mate(?) in the end. Looking forward to read the story.
Congratulations on the new release and thank you for the post.
You’re very welcome, thank you! I have to admit that I’ve felt sorry for Lyle for a long time. That age of learning one’s identity and figuring out where to go in life can be awful. I’m so glad I won’t have to do that again. At least, not until the next go around, if that ends up being the case.
Good luck with the giveaway! <3
“Strong and silent sex-god.” We need more of those. Yes, we do.
Adjustments… they’re never easy, no matter how many times one’s done it. sigh Hang in there, Lyle… and Vaughn (poor guy too). hugs
I’m starting to REALLY not like GDBCG. Really. Not. And I don’t even have Book 2 in my hands yet. =P
<3
Just because I love to do this to you… if you hate the GDBCG now, just wait until book 3. grins at the look I know you’re giving me
Thank you very much, and best of luck with the giveaway! As always, love to see your comments. :D
Thanks for the post and excerpt. I always find it interesting to read different characters’ perspectives. The way we perceive things can be so colored by our own experiences, personality, etc. I sure hope Lyle and Vaughn can work through their disagreement.
That’s so true, Jen! Thank you very much. :D
Without giving away anything about the ending, I can only say that a father’s love should be timeless and forgiving. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for both of them.
Best of luck with the giveaway! <3
I enjoyed the teaser and meeting Vaughn and it’s quite amazing how different people see each other I loved the Quote “For example, while Randy looked on Vaughn as a strong and silent sex-god, Lyle just saw Vaughn as his dad.”
Thank you! And you’re absolutely right. That’s one of the things that make playing with so many characters such a great time. :D
Thank you again for joining the tour, it’s always great to read your comments. Good luck! <3
o_o This post will not make you laugh.
You have no idea how relieved I am to know that Randy and Lyle see Vaughn in two different lights. Because no matter which perspective you give precedence, for them both to feel the same way and be in the relationships they are in now is just asking for everyone to tense up and whisper “awkward” under their breaths.
Also two thumbs up for Lyle making a Disney/Pixar reference. xD No matter how angsty-bullheaded the emotions behind it were.
I don’t think I’ve ever viewed my father as outdated. I kind of just took him as he was. Although lately he’s been getting a bit paranoid. He bought me a case of MREs “just in case.” And then refused to specify. Though he is a disaster response operative, so maybe he’s just talking tornadoes, power outages, and blizzards. He got a bug while helping in Nepal and now weighs less than I do the jerk.
Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, Lyle you’re reading too much into this. Don’t go Kylo Ren on us.
laughs My friend, you are always hilarious! As for your dad, at least if the zombie apocalypse ever comes to fruition it sounds like he’s going to be one prepared person. I’ll be sure to find his address should everything go to hell. XD
Thanks again for reading and commenting, and good luck with the giveaway! <3
Thank you for the interesting post. It was interesting to read about how two characters view another in totally different lights.
You’re very welcome, H.B.! Thank you for reading and commenting! I am honoured to know that you’re enjoying the posts and following along with the tour. <3
Good luck with the giveaway! :D
Doing the first steps into adulthood can be a problematic enough under normal circumstances for a young man. But also having to deal with a very special personality can be a dangerous mix. I love how you packed a classic theme of son vs. father and gave it a a very thrilling twist! :D
And I love how you just do not make it an easy one make your readers have to think and contemplate all sides. How and why Vaughn is overprotective and how Lyle is only pre-occupied with enjoying his abilities, lacking the wisdom and foresight of his dad.
A sure promise for desaster…and a great adventure! :D
<3
Thank you! I now have this mental image of your father sitting back nodding his head solemnly in agreement. XD
Always a pleasure to read your comments, my friend. Thank you very much. <3
I am just starting Wolf, WY and enjoying thoroughly enjoying it. I’m so happy to hear that there is already a second book!
Thank you very much! I’m thrilled to hear that, and it’s definitely perfect timing then! Have a great weekend and best of luck with the giveaway. :D
I can’t wait to see Lyle in action in this book. I didn’t remember how much of a teenager he was, lol.
laughs I’d say the boy still has a bit of growing up to do, yes. But I have faith in him! XD
Thanks for the comment, Serena. And best of luck with the giveaway! <3
