Blurb: When Ally discovers dozens of naked photos of him have been posted online, he’s devastated and tries to contain the situation, hoping it doesn’t get worse. Only problem is his laptop has died, and Levi Francis—the guy Ally knows doesn’t like him—sees Ally acting suspiciously on the computers in the University’s Physics lab. Ally’s day can’t get much worse.

But after Levi accidentally drops a love letter written in Spanish, Ally returns it and finds his assumptions about Levi are turned upside down. Betrayed and hurt by his ex, Ally knows it’s the worst possible time to start trusting someone, but there’s something about shy, glittery Levi that gets under his skin.

Review: At first it seems like maybe Ally (Allejandro) is just up to a little bit of mischief when Levi, a former classmate, catches him in the physics lab, but we soon learn that Ally’s unauthorized use of the computer is anything but fun. The naked images he’s trying to keep Levi from seeing are actually pictures of himself that his vindictive ex-boyfriend has posted to several websites. Ally doesn’t want anyone to see the images, least of all Levi, a former potential crush who Ally is certain doesn’t like him for some reason.

There isn’t much to expand on, at least plot-wise, that the blurb doesn’t tell us. Our two MCs run into each other again under less than ideal circumstances, but things start to turn around when Ally goes to return Levi’s dropped letter. Ally is taken by Levi’s sweet, shy demeanor, even though at first he is still convinced that Levi doesn’t like him.

“It really was such a shame he didn’t like me—he was all sharp and sparkly and his shyness was oddly entrancing. With his long silvery hair and pointy chin, he was more striking than conventionally attractive, but those eyes did something to me—they had since the first time I’d noticed him in physics. They were huge and expressive, and made me wonder what he’d look like if he smiled. Would his face change completely, like clouds lifting from the face of the sun, the way it did with some people? Or would a smile light him up and make him glow impossibly bright?”

Suki Fleet’s words are so beautiful and poetic. I was enchanted by her character descriptions, and with the simple beauty of the story. Levi is this wonderful, shy, inexperienced boy who has had a crush on Ally for a long time and decides to grab the opportunity to let him know. Ally is humiliated by what his ex is doing to him, and is unsure whether to let Levi see that pain and vulnerability. I loved watching them decide how close to let the other get, and seeing where they ended up.

Te Quiero was a lovely story of unrequited love returned at last—and, ultimately reminds us that love can come at unexpected or inopportune times, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t grab it with both hands. This one was short and sweet. The pacing was quick, and I would have especially liked to get to know Levi better, but I definitely enjoyed it! And, the letter… siiiiiigh. The letter was gorgeous, swoony perfection.
