Blurb: When his best friend, Lee, offered him his sub as part of a bet, Colton Prier never expected more than a clean condo from the boy. But Tate Nicholson is well-trained, eager , and he likes rope play as much as Colton enjoys tying him up. It should have ended after one night, but they begin meeting in secret, and Colton can’t stop thinking about Tate. It’s a betrayal of his friendship with Lee to fall in love with Tate, but Colton can’t help wanting the sub for himself.
He’s not alone in his feelings, either. Tate thought he was happy with Lee. Not completely fulfilled, but happy enough. But as he spends more time with Colton, he realizes Lee isn’t capable of giving him what he wants anyway. Lee demands his full submission, but Tate doesn’t want to be a lifestyle sub. Colton expects his obedience at times but gives him his freedom more often than not, which is more in line with what Tate wants.
When Tate really needs his Dom and Lee isn’t around to help him, he reaches the tipping point and needs to choose who he wants to give his submission to, and to accept the consequences of his choice when he does.
Review: Have you ever been in a situation where your head and your heart are totally at odds? This book is a clear example of the heart wanting what the heart wants, and nothing can stand in the way. There is a lot about BDSM etiquette here, and what the rules are when a Dom loans out his sub to another Dom (or bets him and loses).
Lee loves to bet. He bets on everything. He bets with everything—even the time of one of his current subs (he has multiple). I have to say that Lee is not shown in the best light in this book, and I would love to have him be the focus of the next installment and see him really meet someone who gives him a run for his money. Lee hasn’t found “the one” yet, but he inadvertently is the catalyst for his best friend and business partner meeting his.
Colton loves to tie people up; it’s his one main kink and he’s good at it. Lee has a sub that is interested in bondage, so betting Tate’s time kills two birds for Lee—lending (losing) Tate to a Dom that does bondage makes his sub happy and also allows Lee time with his other charges. Colton really doesn’t have any expectations on the weekend he has won with Tate, but when Tate shows up in nothing but his underwear, who is Colton to look a gift horse in the mouth? It’s when the two of them start manipulating Lee’s love of gambling to spend more time together that things get a little gray. I have to say that Caitlin Ricci handles this situation really well. I was very skeptical of the premise for this book. It just didn’t sound like it was on the up and up, but the author puts us in a situation that tangles around these characters and hooks you in to the end.
Both Colton and Tate are very aware of what is right and what is wrong, and even step away from each other because they are striving to do what is right. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of integrity that the author imbues in her characters. But alas, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants, and when Tate is truly in need, it is Colton who comes to his rescue—not Lee.
Reckless is a well written story, it is nicely paced and easy to read. Colton is an amazing Dom, and who doesn’t like stories about a man with some rope who knows how to use it? Tate is young, he’s twenty-two, but he knows what he wants. For Tate, submission is a choice not a necessity.
“Tate was different in many ways, but his submission was because it gave him pleasure to submit and to lose himself in the knowledge that someone else was taking care of him. I realized that his submission had very little to do with giving up himself, and that was beautiful to me. He retained who he was, and submitting was just another layer.”
I totally enjoyed reading Colton and Tate’s romance. The BDSM is hot, the chemistry between the two MCs solid, and the tangled web of “should I or shouldn’t I” that Caitlin Ricci weaves keeps this novel fresh and interesting. I absolutely recommend this story.
