Writing Taking A Stand
I’m not sure if I should start off this way but this book is by far one of the better books I’ve written. It’s also the most different from my style as I could get, while still being me.
When I first started writing it I wanted it to be different. I wanted to stretch myself and so I went in with the idea that I wouldn’t use any tag lines. It’s was a test to myself, but could I do it? I think so. It was hard going (and I want to say harder editing) but I came out with a story that not only holds what a story needs and also proved to myself that I could do anything I could put my mind to. And for me, that’s what I really needed. It’s what I need. That push, to grow. I will say it was hard going, harder than I would have thought to relay what I meant, what the characters were doing without tag lines.
Second I was touching on a subject that wasn’t a lifestyle choice for myself. I like reading BDSM books, or I really enjoying reading from a few authors, so the idea of going into this was something I was hesitant about. I’ve written rough sex before, but this was more so IS different. The lifestyle is more than a few hits of a palm while you’re in the moment and that’s what I wanted to get into. I wanted it to be about the person going into it. The one who craved the pain, the binding, the sub space but wasn’t allowed to like that. Which was because of what he is, but in real life isn’t it the same. Isn’t a lot of choices come from a flight to understand why you like it, and then to fight what others thinks and say even if they never have to know what you’re into.
I think I just confused myself.
Then there’s was the fact that I wanted to be accurate, I wanted to be sensitive to the lifestyle. I always hesitate when reading BSDM by authors I don’t already know. I understand the idea that people write what they don’t know and they write it in a way that is all about them reading a few books and thinking that’s correct, even if the authors who they had read felt the same way. so I read things, I looked them up and I hope I was able to get into the right mind space and to highlight what needed to be in it in order to give a book that is what everyone in the lifestyle and those out of it will appreciate.
