Review: On a rainy evening in Carlisle, Officer Kip Rogers finds Josten Applewhite and his little brother Isaac in a doorway, trying to keep out of the elements. Josten’s life has just fallen apart: no job, no place to live, no money, and a little brother who needs his love and protection.

After running across Jos more than once, Kip sticks to his promise not to just help but to do something for those in need. He makes the decision to not let Jos and Isaac go back to the streets. He takes them home and seeks advice and a helping hand from friends and fellow officers. With Jos and Isaac entering his life, Kip starts to realize the joy he gets from having a family.

Jos’s character is filled with so much pride, and he wants to prove he can make a life for himself and his brother. He’s also wary of what Kip expects in return for his help. Along with their own personal issues, Jos has to worry about losing Isaac to an aunt who’s only looking out for herself, and a predator from the streets.

In the continuing saga of the Carlisle Cops series, Andrew Grey brings hope, pride and a little suspense and drama with Fire and Rain. This is also a story about amazing friends that don’t hesitate to come forward and help out. I love that Grey brought Red and Terry (from Fire and Water) and Carter, Donald and Alex (from Fire and Ice) into the fold to give Jos and Isaac an extended family, along with Kip.

Narration: I thought Randy Fuller’s narration was confusing. The story itself is fine, but it’s the voice tones that overlapped with each character. Jos and Isaac started to sound too much alike, and Kip’s voice at times lost its deep tone and was pitchy. So, in this case of audio- vs. e-book, I think the e-book wins.
