At a Glance: Whether it’s a Marie Sexton or L.A. Witt book, you’re always treated to a well written story, and I think this was a good collaboration.

Blurb: Graham and his roping partner, Jackson, have been friends since they were boys. They’ve ruled the rodeo scene for ten years running, but lately, Graham’s heart isn’t in the game. Review: Casper Percy Miller, AKA Kaz, is a college student protesting the rodeo’s treatment of animals. He meets Graham Montgomery, rodeo rider, under some tense moments during a protest.
Graham is a longtime rodeo rider. He doesn’t know what he wants—until he sees Kaz. Apart from the attraction, Graham wants to share his knowledge of horses and their treatment to prove to Kaz there’s no abuse.
Graham and Kaz are opposite in character. Kaz is young and a little immature. He’s headstrong in his opinions and would rather run than talk things out. He wants to be in control of all situations. Graham, being older, has had to hide his sexuality and has never been in a relationship. Once he and Kaz have an intimate moment, Graham knows what he needs and can’t see himself finding that with anyone but Kaz.
I had mixed feelings about Jackson, Graham’s best friend. I sort of felt sorry for him because he seemed to be in some kind of denial; he waited until it was too late to tell Graham how he felt. Jackson also seemed to be missing a certain level of respect for Graham, so all those mistakes Jackson made led to a great loss.
Whether it’s a Marie Sexton or L.A. Witt book, you’re always treated to a well written story, and I think this was a good collaboration. The characters were solid and brought lots of emotion to the storyline. Even though Roped In is a shorter novel, it’s nicely paced and has a lot of diversity.
