Just hearing the clack of nails over my hardwood floor causes me to sigh in ease. I’m not even exaggerating. In the half of a year since losing my two corgis, Dunkyn and Dolan, I was never myself. Even my boyfriend, who wanted me to wait for a longer amount of time so that I could more easily travel to wherever he is stationed, came home for a visit and said, ‘Oh, dear God, you have to get a dog. Now.’ I wasn’t crying all the time, at least by that point. I was good, I was functioning. I wasn’t depressed. But, I wasn’t me. Then I adopted Alastair, a two-year-old (they think) corgi who’d been abandoned. His presence didn’t make me miss my boys any less, in fact, it heightened it. However, I became me again, in ways I hadn’t even been aware had gone missing.
I know some people aren’t dog people. I don’t understand that. Typically, I don’t like them very much. My best friend was one of those people, and it always confused me because I love him. How could I love someone so much who wasn’t a dog person? Then he adopted his first dog a bit ago. He has now adopted his second. He was a dog person all of the time. He just didn’t know it. But I did!
In Son of Money, dogs play a very, very important role. There are three dogs in this book. Harper, the main dog, shall we say, is rather hideous. The so ugly that she’s cute kind of thing. The picture I’m including is the closest I could get, but it’s not really ugly enough to truly be Harper.
Harper, as all dogs do, changed my main character’s life. Randall was doing okay and didn’t want a dog in slightest. However, his seven-year-old niece did. Randall worships the ground she walks on. One night during dinner, she asked her father for a dog, and get’s a resounding no, an angry no. Randall, without thinking, tells his niece that he was planning on adopting his own dog the following day.
That decision brought not only Harper into his life, but his long lost love, Noah. (Side note—Noah has two dogs, both are named for two characters of a recent beloved sitcom. I’ve made an offer that once the book has come out, whoever contacts me first with the name of that sitcom will receive an autographed paperback of any one of my novels. So, keep that in mind while you’re reading.)
While I love all animals, dogs are my favorite. They heal my soul. Which is often exactly how I use them in my novels. They offer comfort, reflection, and when my characters are in their darkest moments, there’s often a dog there willing to give undeserved acceptance. However, unlike my best friend, I do realize that some people aren’t dog people, but the good ones are still animal people (I say that in jest. Kinda.) In my Christmas story that will come out later this year, hopefully, there’s two little teddy bear hamsters that fill that role. But, for Son of Money, it’s all about the dogs!
I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts about Son of Money, and Harper and her two four-legged buddies.

Blurb: Randall Morgan, youngest son of one of Seattle’s wealthiest families, rejected his family’s money to live free of their control and pursue his career as a photographer. To make ends meet, Randall does erotic photography and massage—a secret he keeps from his family so he can remain a part of his young niece’s life. But the price of that relationship is high, and Randall is once more slipping under his family’s thumb.
Noah Carroll is the spokesperson for the Seattle Humane Society, and the city holds a special place in his heart. When fate intervenes during a pet adoption, Noah finds himself face-to-face with his first love—Randall.
While Noah and Randall are not the teenagers they once were, the flame of a first kiss long ago draws them together. Their romance is beginning to grow, but someone is out to destroy Randall and expose all he keeps hidden.
When secrets and rumors thrust Randall into the public eye, his relationship with Noah isn’t the only thing that comes under threat.
About the Author
Brandon Witt’s outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he’s got plenty to write about….

I love animals. I live with a kitten called Lula, she’s the owner of my house and everything within it, including me… You know how cats are.
I also work as a volunteer for the local animal shelter, so I have a lot of dogs I look after three times a week. Sometimes it breaks my heart the defeated state they arrive in, but after some time and a lot of love, most of them are able to pull through. If only we could find loving homes for all of them…
Unfortunately we aren’t allowed pets where we live. I did have my beautiful babygirl rascal until she passed away a few years ago. I loved and still do love her so much. My kids went around telling everyone that rascal was their sister, lol. Thanks for the the awesome giveaway! :) dale.earnhardt03@yahoo.com
Congrats on the release of Son of Money and a happy release day. We don’t have any furry animals as pets but we do have a Aquarium/Fish Tank. when stressed or tired it is very relaxing to watch the fish ;)
We live with an orange and white cat – Manchego. My kids grew up with him and he is a well-loved member of the family. Although his favorite person is definitely my husband.
Thanks for the post!
No more furry animal within the family anymore =( Congrats on your latest release =) I wish you much success with it!
No pets now. I had a wonderful and smart rescue Toy Fox Terrier named Gypsy. She was extremely protective of pregnant me. Later she adopted my infant daughter as her own. My daughter returned her love. When she could walk, my daughter would accompany Gypsy to the fence and bark with her at the 3 little dogs next door.
My Dad now lives with me so I decided he needed a cat. You know older, lap cat. That cat only likes my Dad and will have something to do with me when its time for food. i wanted to get a small dog but was afraid it would get under his feet and trip him while walking. Maybe at a later time we can rescue one!
Congratulations on the release and looking forward to reading it!
No furry friends currently, but hopefully once I get into a stable living situation… I adore taking care of friends’ pets and just seeing random pets around the apartment building.
