At a Glance: This is a good start for a story, but the ending was a bit abrupt. Can we have more of these two, please?

Blurb: Summer break is a time to relax and reconnect at the family cabin in the Eastern Sierras. Unfortunately for squirrel shifter Jamie, his first day back is anything but restful. When his adoptive brothers can’t resist winding Jamie up and sending him on a wild squirrel chase for last season’s buried nuts, he finds himself diverted from his mission in the best possible way.
Sawyer is a man stuck in a tree with no way down, and things are about to get a little weird when one very inquisitive squirrel turns up to save the day. At least it’s not the mountain lion who chased him there to begin with. Still it takes a while before Sawyer’s convinced he’s not seeing things. By the time he’s got his feet back on the ground, it’s Jamie who needs a little TLC—fortunately for both of them, Sawyer’s tent is close by, and Sawyer has the perfect way to heat things up.
Review: Sawyer is out for a hike in the wilderness when he is pursued by a mountain lion. The lion chases him up a tree and absconds with his backpack. Unfortunately, in his mad scramble to get up the tree, he’s broken so many of the branches he doesn’t see a way down. With night approaching and temperatures falling, he’s not sure he will be able to make it.
Meanwhile, Jamie, a squirrel shifter and the adoptive brother of the pain in the ass mountain lion who chased Sawyer, is out looking for his nut stashes. He comes upon Sawyer up the tree and recognizes the scent of the mountain lion in question. Noting the hour and the predicament of the man in the tree, Jamie doesn’t have much choice other than to shift and try to save Sawyer.
Sawyer, of course, thinks he’s seeing things and doesn’t believe that Jamie is real for a while. Eventually he’s somewhat convinced, as Jamie proves to him that what he’s saying is true. While Sawyer remains skeptical, he doesn’t have anything to lose by letting Jamie help him because it’s obvious he hasn’t a clue how to save himself, and nobody else seems to be coming along to help.
Jamie, however, has exhausted himself in saving Sawyer, so he’s not much good once on the ground. Sawyer takes him back to his tent, which is actually close by, to help him recover. Turns out there is enough heat for both of them.
This was my first of the Daily Dose stories this year, and I chose it because I really like LE Franks’ writing and her sense of humor. This story does have a lot of humor, and Jamie shows his character in his willingness to show himself to save Sawyer. My only complaint about this story is its rather abrupt ending; I would have liked a little bit more for these two. Maybe we’ll get to see them in another book? This seems like it would be a great start to a much longer story.
