Blurb: What is “normal”?

When Brandon Kenner shows up at Kasey Ralston’s garage with a 1970 Chevelle SS 454, Kasey is smitten by both the man and his car. But Kasey is hiding an embarrassing secret: his love for old muscles goes beyond what most would consider normal. His unusual fetish has kept Kasey isolated—estranged from his family and even distant from his coworkers.

But when Brandon figures out the hot mechanic’s secret, he’s not repulsed. In fact, he finds Kasey intriguing, and he’s determined to have him for himself.

Everything about Brandon revs Kasey’s engine, and he’s more than willing to get down and dirty with the charming man. What worries Kasey is what will happen after. Is there any chance of a future for them? In the past, expecting anything long-term has only led to heartbreak. But Kasey can’t help hoping that, despite Kasey’s fetish, Brandon will be the exception.

Dividers

Review: I first read Marie Sexton’s Normal Enough a couple of years ago when it was published by Amber Allure, so I knew picking it up again in its reincarnation with DSP wasn’t going to be a hardship. In fact, it probably says a little bit of something about the book that I wanted to read it again, that something being that I really liked this sweet and sexy little story in its original publication.

Normal Enough tests the theory that there’s a perfect someone out there for everyone, which Sexton then goes on to prove in the pairing of Kasey Ralston and Brandon Kenner. In theory these guys shouldn’t be even remotely compatible. Kasey is an auto mechanic: introverted, young, the product of a dysfunctional childhood, and fairly inexperienced at relationships. Brandon, on the other hand, is a successful lawyer: confident, older, sexy and no stranger to bedding any number of guys. What the author does, and what makes Kasey and Brandon work, though, is to not only give Brandon a past that dispels the notion of him being a silver spoon kinda guy but that he and Kasey also share certain sexual proclivities. And then, Kasey gets the opportunity to consider a new standard of normal, which is awesome because who doesn’t want to feel validated?

I loved Kasey’s entire being—the certainty that he was made wrong if for nothing more than that his passion for certain classic cars translated to an intense sensory overload (i.e., they make him horny, baby). The sense of enforced loneliness that pervaded his life. The way he opened up to Brandon. And then, of course, that all led to me loving Brandon too. Brandon’s honesty and complete lack of judgement and his singular focus on Kasey made for some super erotic reading. Honestly, it all feels a little voyeuristic, which I thought was a pretty nifty side effect of the story.

Eighty-two short pages, and I got to swoon (again) over a couple of great guys whose personal norms ending up being two halves of the same whole. Kasey and Brandon were perfect for each other, and it all made for a delectable and kinky bit of romance.
