Blurb: Heroes are boring. Seriously, how much effort does it take to be good? Fortunately, we don’t know! The Butt-Thology authors are back again with their latest action-packed, suspenseful, horrifying thriller…Butt Villains On Vacation. Okay, it might be a comedy.
Find out who Designation Enforcement are pursuing at The Flaming Skull B&B, if retired villain Drunkboy can find love without accidentally killing someone, what happens when Assassin Bandit’s travel agent books him into a resort with the good guys, and why villains and arch nemeses Master Malevolence and The Fluffy Monkey have morning sickness symptoms after hooking up with each other!
Review: Don’t let the title trip you up! I thoroughly loved my first go-round with this group of authors, and I wasn’t disappointed with this anthology either. I enjoyed three out of the four stories in this book, and laughed out loud almost the entire time I was reading.
It was hard to choose, but I think my favorite of the stories was The Flaming Skull B&B by Ally Blue. The villain, Kynn-ang-Peen, and his faithful vassel, Thfft, had me almost in joyful tears. I loved this alien villain’s take on the human race, and the human love interest, Riley Jackson. He just went with it, like it was an everyday occurrence to meet an evil alien overlord that just wanted to make people relax but couldn’t understand why they didn’t like his goth themed bed and breakfast.
Attack of the Undead Enema and Hero Land by T.C. Blue and Kiernan Kelly, respectively, were both equally fun to read. The world building was excellent for both of these stories and my favorite parts of each.
I hate to say it but my least favorite of the bunch was Master Malevolence in The Tail of the Fluffy Monkey by Kage Alan. It was a surprise as I really enjoyed his story from the previous anthology. However, this story wasn’t so much a comedy as it was a satire, I think is the right word. It poked fun at the superhero genre, the Academy Awards, male pregnancy tales and science fiction in general, but there was just something about it that seemed mean spirited to me. I never was much on the satire genre, so your mileage may vary.
