Food as Love
A big part of Saw’s duties as a sub is service. He loves taking care of his master. And the thing he loves the best out of that is feeding his master, and even more specifically, baking.
Even before Saw will allow himself to date Master Day, he is making baked goods for the man. He gets up super early in the mornings, so he has time to bake things like cinnamon rolls and fritters, donuts and muffins. Then when he arrives at work, he quietly leaves a fresh coffee from Timmies and a brown paper bag with whatever goodies he has made on Master Day’s desk.
For Saw, baking and cooking, and making an effort to do these things, is a way that he finds peace, and a way that he shows his care.
The first thing that Saw makes for Master Day is apple fritters.
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons sugar
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1 egg (beaten)
1⁄3 cup milk
1 cup apple (diced)
1 cup cooking oil
confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)
Directions:
Measure and sift all dry ingredients.
Beat eggs and milk together; slowly incorporating the dry ingredients.
Add the chopped apples.
In a heavy skillet on the stovetop, heat cooking oil over medium-high heat.
Drop teaspoon full of apple-batter into hot oil and fry until golden brown in color- 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
Remove from oil and drain on brown paper.
Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Makes 12 small fritters.

About the Book
When Master Damien Richardson (Day to his friends) takes over the front desk manager job at the Iron Eagle Gym, he knows he’s going to need an assistant. But finding the right person for the job is harder than he thought it would be. When he meets Saw, he thinks he’s found the solution to all his problems, and maybe something more.
Sawyer Whitehead lost his master to a tragic car accident some years ago, and since then one opportunity after another has gone sour on him. Thoroughly convinced he’s cursed and a jinx to everything and everyone he touches, he refuses to officially become Day’s assistant because he knows that as soon as he does, something terrible will happen. He’s even more determined not to get involved with Day, despite his attraction, because it would kill him to be responsible for tragedy befalling the lovely man.
Day must convince Saw that he’s not cursed and that together, they can face any challenge that comes their way—in both their professional and personal partnerships.
