Top Five Baseball Moments of All Time

5. Kirk Gibson overcoming injury (two bad legs! Two!!) to hit a game-winning homer in the 1988 World Series.

4. Babe Ruth’s allegedly called home run in the 1932 World Series. Doesn’t get much more classic.

3. Jose Bautista’s homer and bat flip in game five of the 2015 ALDS. Love it or hate it, it was an iconic moment in baseball. I personally loved it. I’m admittedly biased as a Jays fan, but I agree with Jose’s thoughtful take on the criticism.

2. Edgar Renteria’s walk-off single in the 1997 World Series, Game 7. Bottom of the 11th, two outs, bases loaded. Doesn’t get much more pressure-filled than that!

1. Joe Carter’s walk-off homer to win the World Series in 1993. For me, there’s no question this is #1 since I was actually at this game! Watching that ball sail over the wall was one of the most joyous moments of my life. Strangers were all hugging each other and it was just incredible to be there and experience it. Touch ’em all, Joe!

What are your top baseball moments? Hit me up with some clips! :D

About the Book

rts-web-large-650This hot-headed rookie needs discipline—on and off the field.

Pitcher Nico Agresta is desperate to live up to his family’s baseball legacy. Since he was a teenager crushing on his big brother’s teammate, he’s known he can’t act on his desires. His father’s made it clear there should be no queers on the field, but if Nico can win Rookie of the Year like his dad and brother did, maybe he can prove he’s worthy after all.

At 34, veteran catcher Jake Fitzgerald just wants to finish out his contract and retire. His team doesn’t have a prayer of making the playoffs, but who needs the stress? Jake lost his passion for the game—and life—after driving away the man he loved, and he swore he’d never risk his heart again.

Then he’s traded to a team that wants a vet behind the plate to tame their new star pitcher. Jake is shocked to find the gangly kid he once knew has grown into a gorgeous young man. But tightly wound Nico’s having trouble controlling his temper in his quest for perfection, and Jake needs to teach him patience and restraint on the mound.

When their push and pull explodes into the bedroom, Nico and Jake will both learn how much they’ll risk for love.

This gay sports romance features men who have been repressing their feelings far too long, light BDSM, an age difference, sweaty locker rooms, and a happy ending.

  1. Baseball is not a very common sport in my country, so I don’t have any top baseball moment. The closest I got was cheering for my friend’s son’s team a few years back! ;-)

  2. I’m definitely a hockey devotee, but the two recent SF Giants championships were pretty mesmerizing to watch. (The first one had insanely good defense, and that last game was all Bumgarner.)

  3. I guess it would be the first professional baseball game I went to in the Houston Astrodome. Wow does that date me…The Astros won the game but it was so awesome to be in stands watching! So different from watching on TV.

  4. I want to say that it was the year Sosa and McGuire were competing for the home run title, but all that has been tainted by the doping revelations and allegations. My other favorite moment was finally seeing a gam at Wrigley field. There is so much history there.

  5. Congrats on the release of Reading the Signs. I loved the book. Baseball is not a sport that is very popular in my country so i can’t name a favorite moment.

  6. As a die hard Cardinals fan, nothing will ever top Game 6 of the 2011 World Series. I was at that game and it had so many ups and downs. We were down to our final strike 2 times, once in the 8th and once in the 9th innings and we came back to win it in the bottom of the 11th inning on a David Freese (hometown kid) home run. I can’t imagine anything ever topping that game. Not even the World Series winner in Game 7 the next night.

  7. I have no clips but I was at Game 1 of the World Series last year in KC . The game went forever! Finally the Royals pulled out a win in the 14th inning around 1 am. I thought about leaving so many times, but I’m glad I stuck it out!

  8. My top baseball moment was when my son’s travel team had a tournament in Tucson, AZ during spring training and we found out that the Rockies, Whites Sox and Diamondbacks all shared a stadium. Tickets were $5.00 and parking was $3.00 so we went to as many games as we could fit between his schedule. Since it was so cheap, we didn’t feel as if we wasted money is we were only able to see at least 5 innings! We had a blast.

  10. I really don’t follow baseball but I have a favorite T-Ball moment.
We signed my 5yr old niece up for T-Ball to teach her how to be a team player, a good sport ect. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
The day of Ava’s first game arrives. And it is hell.
The heat index is 115 degrees (that’s a cold front here in Louisiana) and humidity is about 80%. We are putting newspapers down on the bleachers to avoid second degree burns. Hiding our frizzy hair under ball caps. Don’t bother ordering an Icee, it’s syrup water by the time you walk the 20ft back to the side seats of hell.
The game begins and Ava’s team is up to bat. At this point, we have all new respect for the coaches. The main coach has two kids trying to climb the chain link fence behind home plate, one running to join his friend in outfield, one with a helmet on backwards and one announcing loudly he has to potty. Coach is sweating like a whore in church.
We sit through what feels like an eternity but was realistically 5 kids take a turn at hitting the ball on the t-stand. Then Ava steps up.
Honestly, we aren’t expecting much out of her. She isn’t the most graceful kid on the planet. She steps up, gets into stance, swings, and Hits The Fucking Ball!
    We go nuts!!!
She stands there looking at first base.
Coach is telling her to “Run! RUN! RUN!”
She gives him a look, looks at First, then runs to Third. Every time they try to redirect her, she heads to Third and she is starting to get mad.
Finally we hear her little voice shout “Dammit Coach, there are people on First and they got the ball. I don’t wanna be out so I’m goin’ to Third. The next kid can got to first”
That is my favorite baseball moment.

  11. Congrats on your book. One of my favorite moments has to do with me – when I was a kid. I didn’t play organized ball, but did play pick up games with friends, and I ended up saving the game with several catches and then with a home run.

  12. Thanks for the chance! I loved Reading the Signs. A particular baseball moment I remember was the Red Sox winning the World Series in 2004, it was pretty neat after so many years!

  13. The best baseball moment for me was The Netherlands winning the Worldchampionships in 2011. The first European country ever to win the world title.
