It’s release day for Heart Trouble!

This sweet gay romance is part of a series, but it can easily be read as a standalone.

In fact, rather than centering on a newspaper—as most of the Ashe Sentinel Connections series does—this story focuses on a nurse and a college journalism instructor, with their first meeting taking place in the emergency room.

Nurse Ben Griggs doesn’t find his profession sexy, as you’ll see from one of the book excerpts given below. His love interest Gage Evans would beg to differ.

What do you think? What are some of the sexiest professions you like to read about in m/m romance?

Leave your answer below in the comments by 11:59pm Eastern time on October 11, 2016 to enter the giveaway of a $10 Amazon gift card!

About the Book

heartroubleWhen Gage Evans gets a look at his hot nurse, he’s smitten immediately. Too bad he’s given the nurse the impression he’s some kind of daredevil. It couldn’t be further from the truth. Gage is a college journalism instructor writing a series of guest columns that require him to jump into new experiences — a fun bucket list, but one that does nothing to convince Ben he’s not an adrenaline junkie.

Fresh off his latest heartbreak, nurse Ben Griggs is wary when one of his patients shows an interest in him — especially when that patient showed up in the ER after a motorcycle accident. Ben’s ex was a biker, a friend with benefits, and he dropped Ben cold when someone more interesting came along. Ben isn’t the kind of guy who can hold the interest of an adrenaline junkie like Gage Evans for long. The last thing he wants is to lose his heart to the wrong man again.

The more Ben gets to know Gage, the harder he is to resist. He can only hold on for the ride and keep his guard up as much as he can. But Ben’s lack of trust seriously gets in the way of building a relationship, and Gage will only be patient so long. Can he trust Gage enough to give his heart, or are they destined to have a fling that goes nowhere?

The Excerpts

Ben’s point of view

Ben wasn’t cut out for winning the heart of a man who craved excitement.

He was a nurse. He spent his days changing catheters (he still wasn’t used to that scent), jabbing needles into people (very well, thank you very much), and administering enemas (the shit had literally hit the fan on his first attempt; it was a wonder he’d ever wanted anal sex again).

He ended his shifts, more often than he’d like to admit, covered in vomit, blood or other substances that should remain unnamed.

Nothing about that was sexy.

But the man in Exam 3 … he was sexy.

Ben drew the curtain aside in a rattle of sliding hooks, only to stop short. His breath caught in his chest.

The man before him was long and lean, so tall his feet hung off the end of the bed. His light blond hair was a tousled mess against the pillow.

He was scruffy, pale fuzz barely darkening his jaw but roughing up what might otherwise be a baby face. Just now that jaw was clenched in pain.

The man turned his head at the sound of the curtain being drawn open, and Ben hurried to school his expression to the sympathetic friendliness he showed all his patients.

Gage’s point of view

His leg throbbed rhythmically, and he was hyperaware of the blood traveling through his body, as it seemed his pulse wanted to beat right there under his injuries. Meanwhile, fire licked up and down the surface of his skin.

It was driving him crazy.

Then Nurse Hotness walked in.

The first nurse had been a nice maternal type, but this one was just shy of six feet with wavy brown hair and eyes to match. His skin tone was warm, nearly tan, and Gage would lay money he looked that way year-round, rain or shine. Lucky bastard. He wouldn’t mind getting a look under those ridiculous scrubs, either. He hadn’t thought it could be done, but Nurse Hotness made the drab, shapeless outfit look good.

He was warm and friendly, flirty even, and Gage had been pleasantly distracted until he left.

So, he was relieved when Nurse Hotness returned with a fairly attractive, if older, doctor trailing him. He was less happy to see the way the doctor’s eyes fixed on Nurse Hotness’ ass.

Looks like I can kiss my fantasies of a sponge bath good-bye.

  1. Congratulations for the new release. While firefighters, cowboys, law enforcement officers sound sexy to others, I am always drawn to profession that close to compassion. So either doctor, nurse, or VET are sexy to me. Men with fluffy animals just made me happy ^^

  3. Congrats and best wishes on the newest release, DJ.
I don’t really have preference for character’s profession on my reading. I wouldn’t mind to read more of EMT/nurse and photographer though.

  4. Congrats on the new release! I loved this book, it was a very read.
I think doctor, police officer, detective, handyman, firefighter, the CEO or president of a company, are some of the most sexiest professions if the plot is well done.

  5. I think just about any profession can seem enticing if well written. I’m particularly attracted to heroes who are in the military or public safety.

  8. Well, I actually been wanting to read this book. Sounds interesting. Sexy professions, you ask? Hmm, firefighters, law enforcements (policeman, FBI agents, Detectives, Criminal Investigators, Private Investigators…etc), doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, entrepreneur (businessman), models , dancers, musicians, athlete (football player, soccer, hockey…etc), chefs (nothing sexier than a man who likes to cook 😀).. I would like too read about a Physical Therapist, a Interior designer, a dentist, or a flight attendant. ☺
