We’re so pleased to welcome author AF Henley today on the Wolf, in League blog tour. Enjoy this teaser snippet from the book, and then be sure to check out the Rafflecopter giveaway below.
Welcome, AF!
It is such a huge pleasure to be here at The Novel Approach Reviews, and to be granted this opportunity to share this blog tour with you. I’m celebrating the newest release in my Wolf series, Wolf, in League, and I have to say that it feels like it’s taken forever to get here, to this third story, with these men and this town. But I do love these two new characters – whether it’s Matthew’s simplicity and faith, or Gavin’s spark, I was excited the moment they introduced themselves. I can only hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
For those that have been following along, welcome back! For those that are new to the tour, hello, and allow me to sum up what’s happening. Throughout the tour I’ve been sharing tiny teasers from the novel, and also sharing the details on a tour-wide giveaway. Follow through to the end of the post to learn how you could win your very own signed, print copy of Wolf in League, a “crystal and silver” diamante Howling Wolf Pendant, and a $20 gift certificate to the Less Than Three Press book market.
And now, the teaser, and our first look at Doctor Gavin Strauss…
The Excerpt
Matthew wasn’t surprised that he was led to an area of the GDBCG that he’d never been to before. There were, after all, many areas like that in existence. What did surprise him was the lighting in that particular area. Where white lighting was necessary, over desk and research areas, that lighting was low and specific (surprisingly similar to how Matthew himself preferred to work). In most of the area, however—corridors, waiting areas, even inside the one restroom he’d seen by way of peripheral vision when the door was opened to let in a hurrying, very focused older gentleman in a lab coat—the overhead lighting was red. Emergency red. The kind that shone from “EXIT” signs and out of warning beacons. It was creepy as all get-go.
“Gavin Strauss is the head of this wing,” Dyball explained when he saw Matthew eyeing the lights warily. “He is extremely photophobic and somewhat leucistic. You’ll understand more after you meet him.”
The corridor was more ominous than cold, so when Matthew found himself shivering, he forced his body to quit. These two men had obviously done a good job in setting up their little Blödsinn and he decided to take that as a compliment. At least they’d gone to the effort of attempting a bit of intrigue, rather than resorting to interns draped in sheets and shaking chains while bemoaning Christmases past. Or was that Christmas future?
Matthew shook his head to dispel the thought and was startled when his sleeve was caught.
“In here, Doctor.”
The office he was led into was small but lavishly decorated. Dark wood gleamed under the red lights, thick carpeting softened their footsteps, and expensive frames glittered orange and topaz around a dozen different awards and accomplishments, all with the appropriate seals and signatures to validate them. There were no windows in the office, and only one muted desk lamp offered any ‘natural’ lighting to the room, albeit in a yellow haze. It was enough light for Matthew to register the eyes of the man behind the desk though, and the man could have been Godzilla for all Matthew would have noticed after that.
Matthew was struck speechless, spellbound, as he held the man’s gaze: eyes so light that the irises looked white, what little Matthew could see of them; pupils so large that if he’d not been gazing so intently it would have appeared that the man’s eyes were nothing but black circles; red sclera. Matthew’s hand dropped to his penlight, not waiting for Matthew to consciously direct it. The penlight would be a poor excuse for an ophthalmoscope but it would most certainly do. He snapped it on, he drew it up—
Both of the man’s hands flew up to cover his eyes, and Dyball and Volos shouted as one. “No!”

Blurb: It’s been months since anyone at the Committee has had any contact from the O’Connell family or their pack members, and they are not happy. Suspicious of the activities that took place in D.C. and determined to find out what the wolves are up to, the Committee recruits one of their newest residents, Doctor Matthew Dietrich, to play the part of neighbor and infiltrate the family.
Matthew has always been a keep-to-himself kind of person. Though idealistic and optimistic, he prefers to work in solitude, at night, while he researches the findings that he hopes will one day change the world. When he’s approached by the executives of the Center, he has no idea why they’d choose him. And to say he is skeptical over the concept of men that can shift into wolves would be an understatement. Until he meets his new partner, the man that will play the part of his “husband” in the Committee’s scheme, Doctor Gavin Strauss.
About the Author
Henley was born with a full-blown passion for run-on sentences, a zealous indulgence in all words descriptive, and the endearing tendency to overuse punctuation. Since the early years Henley has been an enthusiastic writer, from the first few I-love-my-dog stories to the current leap into erotica.
A self-professed Google genius, Henley lives for the hours spent digging through the Internet for ‘research purposes’ which, more often than not, lead seven thousand miles away from first intentions but bring Henley to new discoveries and ideas that, once seeded, tend to flourish.
Henley has been proudly publishing with Less Than Three Press since 2012.

Until next time,

Intrigue very well done. I like the spooky atmosphere. And with everything else does the good Mr. Strauss truly simply suffering from simple afflictions or is there more to it? dun dun DUNNNN
Also, there were two words I was unfamiliar with, thankfully according to the five finger test this means it’s still within my reading level without offering too much of a challenge. xD
Got to love learning. And reading. Sadly I’m animating not reading. sigh But soon. Very soon.
Animation sounds like a fantastic thing to be involved in! Way to go. :D
If it was the medical terms that got you, I’m very sorry for that. With the book in the good doctor’s perspective I figured I’d better use the right terminology. ;)
Enjoy your day and thanks so much for joining me! <3
What a perfect setting to introduce Doctor Gavin Strauss! Spooky indeed and gloomy, too. :D
What is great about this excerpt is that Dr. Strauss has so far not said a single word. He is just sitting there. That makes for a creepy first impression especially considering his eyes! Man, I can perfectly imagine how Strauss is sitting there and then looking up at Matthew, revealing his eyes. What a moment that must be!
Excellent excerpt, buddy! Truly enjoyable! 😃
❤️
Thank you so much, and you definitely did those eyes justice with that amazing cover, my friend. <3
Thank you again for the teaser. I love the name “Gavin Strauss”
Thank you! I’ve since read that Gavin means “battle hawk” or, in some cases, “white hawk” which is cool, but then I also read that Strauss means “ostrich” which doesn’t seem nearly as cool. In essence, I ended up naming my character battle-hawk-ostrich, but by the time I realised, I’d fallen in love with the sound of the name. XD
Glad you enjoyed and it’s great to have you on the tour again! <3
I remember when book 1 was released, I really enjoyed it and was dying to read the next ones.
Thanks for the excerpt!
It seems so long ago now, even though I know it can’ possibly be too far back. The boys have come a long way. XD
Glad to hear you enjoyed Wolf, WY and I can only hope you love the next two as much. <3
Thanks for taking part in the tour and the giveaway!
Great teaser is it me or are they are getting creepier as the days pass!!
I may have possibly picked out some of the creepier moments for the first few posts. XD Sorry about that! I promise that some romance is afoot!
Glad you enjoyed and I’m thrilled you’re still keeping up with the tour! Thank YOU. <3
Gavin Strauss… hm…
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but the subject of vampires makes me roll my eyes like some uncontrollable tic. If you hadn’t started this series with Wolf, I would most likely not have picked it up. I’m just… tired of vampires, unless someone does something new and different with them. And I’m not talking about “Supernatural” different, although technically there’s nothing new with those vampires either.
So I’m waiting to see where this Strauss character is going and what he’s got up his sleeves… I’m watching you Gavin Strauss, although I don’t think I’ll ever manage to be quite as creepy as you. But hey, maybe one day you can meet a few of my characters. They’re a lot harder to intimate, and one of them is perfectly capable of unearthing (potentially) all the secrets you don’t want her to know. waggles eyebrows
<3
Oh, Gavin… where will thou endest up? lifts hand, waves it, and whispers I know. I just can’t tell you. grins
But I do promise that Gavin will be with us for some time. Whether we want him or not. ;)
I look forward to reading your characters in print one day soon! <3
Thank you for the teaser. I’m really enjoying the blog tour!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you’re enjoying. :D
