He originally plans to spend his days relaxing in the sun and working on his book, but a chance meeting changes all that. While on the island, Ryan meets sexy boat captain Eric, who takes his thoughts off of things. Eric and Ryan spend a passionate week together, getting to know each other. When it’s time to depart, Ryan is devastated to leave Eric behind, but they make promises to write and call. When that tapers off, Ryan’s sure he’s lost Eric forever, but Eric has other plans.
Review: I wanted to love Come Sail Away. I wanted it to be good. Ugh. But the blurb is more exciting than the book. I take that back; the blurb is the book. The whole book. It’s like when you see great previews for a movie and then they end up being the best parts. Maybe because the book was so short…. I can see how, if it was double in length, that we could get some good character building going. I can tell the author has the capability and talent, but I was just never able to connect to either MC. The plot is one we have seen before in other books, so I was hoping for a bit of flair or really interesting guys, but instead it felt formulaic.
Ryan is a romance writer on holiday, a holiday he was supposed to take with his ex-boyfriend, until Ryan found he was cheating on him, so he takes the vacation by himself. A little time in the tropics in a private cabana is just what he feels he needs.
Eric captains his own charter boat. He came to the Caribbean over five years before, running from his life and family in Chicago. Lately he has started longing for home and a more stable life again. Eric runs into Ryan at his hotel, and the attraction is instant. He is surprised when the man is a passenger on his charter boat the next day.
There are plenty of hot moments in this short story; I just wish there had been more story and a better sense of who these men are. The epilogue tries for a HEA, but I would be more convinced of a HFN. Unfortunately, this one falls in the iffy column of recommendation. It isn’t that I didn’t enjoy it at all; it’s just that there is no real story to recommend.
