Blurb: Undercover police officer Kell has crossed the line. He’s become trapped in an abusive relationship with his violent thug of a boss and sees no way back without wrecking months of work. The hope of ever being involved with someone who respects him seems a distant dream.
Private investigator Gethin is depressed that the bulk of his work involves following unfaithful partners. He knows just what it’s like to be cheated on. Even worse, his relationship with his ex is complicated and Gethin can see no way of breaking free of a guy who so desperately needs him.
A chance encounter brings Kell and Gethin together, entwining their lives with secrets and danger. They both have reasons to keep things casual. But there are consequences to zipless fucks. Not only do they have to survive people trying to kill them, they need to trust each other and keep their wits about them, while ensuring their hearts stay intact.
Review: I haven’t read a book by this author that I didn’t like. She has a way of taking you into a story, totally immersing you in that world. Amazing.
What I loved most about Drawn In was the fact that it was just nonstop action, drama, suspense and mystery. Add to that, two very flawed and complicated characters whose lives are interwoven so tightly you don’t even know where the one begins and the other ends, and to say this was a page turner is an understatement. I couldn’t read this book fast enough.
Kell, an undercover police officer, is in deep on the job, and is barely holding it together when he meets Gethin. Gethin, on the other hand, is not doing much better. Being a private investigator isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; it’s actually depressing him. A simple encounter at a birthday party, and a missing person case, bring these men together in a tangled web so big that they’ll be lucky if they both survive.
I feel I won’t do this book justice with my review, but I’ll try. First off, some parts weren’t easy to read. The very first scene is somewhat shocking and something I wasn’t prepared for. I was wondering if I was reading the right book. It just takes off from there. And. Never. Stops. I loved it.
Kell and Gethin have so much going against them. There were times I was thinking, why don’t they just give up already? But they persevered and fought so hard for their happiness. Together they were a powerhouse, alone they would sink. Their life was precious moments of calm, with days of all hell breaking loose. No one was left unscathed, not even the reader. On top of it all, there was Gethin’s ex in the picture. More on that later.
What I loved the most was the writing. Ms. Elsborg puts you right there in the action. She also makes you feel everything. This isn’t a lighthearted read. At times it’s dark, gritty, and filled with despair. There’s hopelessness and just pure, raw emotion. But wow, it was definitely worth it. Now, don’t get me wrong, there were some lighthearted moments, some comic relief, if you will, especially Angel and Henry along with their two dogs. They were hilarious.
I can’t go into much detail without giving spoilers away, but I will say this: There have been two books that have made me tear up while reading them. This was one of them. Gethin had my heart while doing what he had to do for his ex, Jonnie. The author wrote one of the most brilliant, heartbreaking scenes I’ve read in quite a while. It’ll stay with me for a very long time.
From some of the reviews I’ve read, not everyone was happy about the Jonnie angle. Some felt it could’ve been left out, it was overkill, whatever. I felt it was important for it to be in the story. It gave us insight into who Gethin really was as a human being. It just made me love his character even more.
Drawn In is an amazing read with unforgettable characters. And just a warning for those who may have triggers, there is physical and emotional abuse in this book, on page and off.
