Blurb: Astro-physicist Matthew Dansk falls for one of his colleagues during a research trip, but Alan won’t tell anyone he’s gay and he never goes out with the same man twice. Matt is looking for a serious relationship and he doesn’t date men who are in the closet. When the two men part ways, Matt does his best to forget his feelings for Alan.
Months later, Alan winds up in the hotel room next to Matt’s at a conference, and both men realize the chemistry between them hasn’t diminished. As they spend time together, Matt sees a different side of Alan. When he realizes Alan’s feelings for him run deeper than he’d thought possible, he begins to hope that they can be together after all.
Review: I really enjoyed Astronomical, book one in Silvia Violet’s Astronomers series; Greg and Blake just hit all my geek buttons. When I saw that the sequel was being re-released, I didn’t hesitate in wanting to read it, but sadly, Meteor Strike didn’t quite grab me like the first book did.
I guess it had a lot to do with how Alan and Matt went their separate ways the first time around. Alan was a bit of a douche towards Matt when they met up at a nightclub, but Alan did make it clear where he stood on relationships and being in the closet. Alan was straightforward; he’s a serious minded young man who knows what he wants and how to attain it. So, when he pulls this one-eighty later in the story, that was when I kind of went…whoa! It turns out that this guy did have a bit of a romantic soul after all. This I did like.
It seemed that Matt was mostly suffering from a bad case of unrequited lust. I mean, the guy also admitted to himself that he had a slight crush on his boss, Greg, so it was a bit difficult getting into Matt’s character. What I loved about Astronomical was that the romantic dance began immediately between Greg and Blake, but in Meteor Strike, it took a bit of time before romance struck for Matt and Alan.
I was having mixed feelings about where to put Meteor Strike on the rating scale, but I finally decided I’m putting it right in the middle at a sound 3 stars.
