Blurb: One burned and broken man finds his way home. Can he find peace in the arms of a man easy to love?
Justin made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, battling domestic terrorism, never the man he really was, using hate to avenge the death of his best friend. The friend he’d killed.
What he doesn’t count on is getting shot, and if he’s going to die he wants it to be on Crooked Tree soil. Home.
Sam is as much a part of Crooked Tree as any of the families, and the offer to buy into the ranch is a dream come true. But falling for a hidden, secretive, injured man isn’t the way to keep his head in the game.
Review: There is always an abundance of characters that we meet with each and every story that we read. Some we love, some we hate. I have to say that RJ Scott has created one of the most memorable characters in A Cowboy’s Home: Sam Walter. I saw Sam as the quiet strength, support and peacekeeper who helped Justin Allen through his return home, facing a difficult time with family and friends.
Justin is on his way home to Crooked Tree Ranch. He’s reliving what had caused him and Adam Strachan to go missing from home for over a decade, and the pain is devastating for him. He’s injured and hides out on the ranch at the old logger cabins. Justin is in turmoil, so many decisions to make: living, dying, revenge, family, friends, going on the run. What answers does he have for any of these things?
Sam, the chef at Crooked Tree, has returned from dealing with his own family problems. The owners of the ranch make him an offer that he can’t refuse. He decides to explore more of the ranch on his dirt bike, and checks out the old logger cabins. He’s also curious as to who, or what, has been sneaking into the restaurant. When Sam discovers an injured man at the cabins, he has no idea who it is. But once it comes to light that this is Justin, Sam becomes his rock.
To get the full dynamics of the Montana series, read Crooked Tree Ranch and The Rancher’s Son, then A Cowboy’s Home. It isn’t just a quick falling in love story between Sam and Justin. It’s a story about two men who have to heal and put the past behind them and move forward. It’s also about reuniting family, or making a decision not to put them in danger. I think RJ Scott will bring us more of Adam and Justin. With Adam only gaining bits and pieces of his memory, there isn’t closure yet between him and Justin.
