When Sam Madison takes his young nephew, Levi, to be seen for an ear infection, he’s immediately attracted to Travis and the feeling is mutual. But Sam’s sister Melanie is going through a rough time and caring for Levi, and covering her obligations, keeps Sam occupied. He feels like he’s in no position to start a relationship.
Travis sees things differently, though he’s unable to truly understand the deep bond and connection Sam shares with his twin. As Melanie’s life goes from bad to worse, Sam is forced to make difficult decisions. Is protecting Levi enough of a reason for the two men to stay together, or will fighting for the child ultimately tear them apart?
Review: Sam Madison has put his life on hold to help with his six year old nephew, Levi. His twin sister, Melanie, has some issues, and it’s always been hard for Sam to deal with her. She’s turned to drugs, so he tries not to upset her for fear she will go over the edge.
Doctor Travis Nelson, pediatrician, loves his job, and has a pretty good life. After a relationship that didn’t work out, he’s made sure that he would never be quick to fall for someone again. When Travis first meets Sam, he has some doubts about the man—but he still finds himself thinking about Sam. Then, when they meet again, he sees Sam in a whole new light, and Travis not only wants to be involved with Sam, but he wants Levi to be part of their friendship too. As their relationship grows, the fact that Travis wants to give Sam everything he needs, but doesn’t always understand Sam’s relationship with his twin sister, causes problems for them.
The one thing I was really hoping for as I read Acceptable Behavior was for Melanie to make smarter choices. For all that Sam did for her, to the point he’d taken over her parental duties, she is really a bitch to him. If it hadn’t been for Sam and Travis, she would have lost Levi. In spite of that, though, I liked the storyline. Jenna Byrnes knows how to spin a family drama into an easy read, with humor and love and solid characters.
