We’re so pleased to welcome author Shannon West today to help us celebrate our 5th Blogiversary. Shannon’s sharing a little bit of info about her Holiday Wishes with you, and is also offering a great giveaway–details below.
Welcome, Shannon!
Happy Holidays to everyone!
In the holiday season, love is in the air around us. And for most of us, that’s a wonderful thing. But what about those people who have lost their loved ones or who haven’t yet found “the one”? Does that mean they can’t be joyous this season or they can’t participate fully in the love fest of the holidays?
There is no safe way to make an investment in love. If you love anyone or anything, then you’re vulnerable to losing it and your heart is in grave danger of being broken. If you want to avoid this pain, then give your heart to no one. Not to a beloved pet, nor to your friends, and not even to your family, because they all have the power to hurt you when they leave, as they invariable will, whether they choose to or not.
Instead, you can lock up your heart and throw away the key. And there in that airless, motionless room, you can be safe. The danger, of course, is that you will change. You will become cold behind your impenetrable walls and lonely. Love is messy and emotional and hurtful and once you love someone or something you leave yourself vulnerable and wide open. Yet the only alternative is that cold, dark room. C.S. Lewis said, “The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.”
Why not cast caution to the wind and allow yourself to live in the light and air? Love and be loved in return? And if “all you have” is the love of a pet or a friend or your family, is that love somehow less precious, less important? Love yourself enough to give yourself this gift of love. It will be the best gift you receive all year.
About The Last Dragonet
Luca Wessex is Dragon Spawn. Son of a human mother and a Red Dragon father, he has been trying his best all his life just to survive and get by. His father is abusive, his mother is dead, and most recently, a vicious and dangerous group of neighborhood Spawn have begun trying to recruit him as a member of their gang. When a pushy and gorgeous Golden Dragon named Dmitri appears, full of questions about the gang and his role in it, Luca tries to cooperate, but he’s no snitch. Suspicious, the gang attacks Luca one evening while he’s working, and he’s rescued by Dmitri, who then kidnaps him and—for his own safety, he claims—takes him to his home in what some say is the most remote spot on Earth, an area of Russia called the Kamchatka Peninsula.

“Love and be loved in return.”
This is a lovely sentiment that I really try to hang on this year, perhaps focusing on the nearest and dearest and work from there.
Thank you for this post, Shannon – I’ll be checking on this Dragonet story! ;-)
Happy Holidays Shannon! Even the Grinch found his little heart expanding 3x when confronted by love. Fictional, I know however sometimes when people are surrounded by those who love it infects them as well. If we allow it, our hearts have a capacity for an infinite amount. Thanks for your post & the reminder to let love in.
Happy Holidays, thank you for this post and giveaway chance.
Welcome Shannon! I love ❤️ your books!
