Blurb: A One Fine Day Novel.
Two men, one lie, and a whole bunch of trouble.
Marty Valdez is in serious trouble. His sister’s wedding is around the corner, and everyone expects to meet Marty’s super-successful underwear model boyfriend – whom Marty invented. Now Marty has to produce a half-naked hottie or suffer the worst humiliation of his life.
FBI agent Luke Myers is in serious trouble. He’s been working undercover to take down a dangerous drug cartel, but his cover’s blown and he needs to disappear. Luckily, a geeky yet intriguing comic book artist gives him the perfect opportunity. Luke just has to pretend to be his boyfriend, and pretending is what he does best. But between Marty’s mother and his ex, Luke might’ve bitten off more than he can chew, and Marty’s knack for finding trouble might ruin more than just his sister’s wedding.
Review: Marty has always been able to get himself out of uncomfortable situation by making up people. Need a boyfriend? Make one up, and while you are at it, might as well make him hot, sexy and an underwear model. But what to do when you have to take the made-up boyfriend to a wedding, especially when Marty’s ex- boyfriend is going to be there with his hot new boyfriend? What to do, what to do…? Go to the local gay bar and hope to find a new fake boyfriend, or at least a hookup who’s willing to pretend to be your boyfriend. It sounds like a crazy idea, and, in most cases, should have failed, but fate has a way of putting together two people who need each other, even if they don’t realize it at the time.
Luke Myers is an undercover FBI Agent, working within the El Dragon Drug Cartel. That is, until his cover is blown and Luke is running for his life. Or, in this case, trying to steal Marty’s car to get away.
After Marty left the bar, empty handed, he came upon Luke trying to steal his car. Marty is such a good guy that instead of calling the police right away, he identifies with Luke by telling him, “We’ve got car thieves in my family too. Of course, they’re distant relative and not really invited to family functions, but we’ve got them.” It’s at that moment Marty makes a deal with Luke—if Luke will act as the fake boyfriend until after the wedding, Marty, won’t call the police. It works for Luke—a car to get away in and a place to hide. Oh, if life were just that simple… Lots of twists and turns lead up to the wedding, Marty’s family being the biggest one, but I won’t give that away. It’s a great story.
Rusty Topsfield does a great job keeping the listener engaged. He uses his voice skillfully to give the characters personality. Topsfield is a professional storyteller, and that shines through. A great story and a skillful narration, Jacob Z. Flores does it again.
