We’re so pleased to welcome author Alec Nortan to TNA today, on the tour for his new novel, The Gaia Protocol. Alec answers a few interesting questions and is also offering a great giveaway, so be sure to check out those details below.
Welcome, Alec!
How do you answer the question, “Oh, you’re an author…what do you write?”
I have a regular job, and I don’t tell many people I’m also a writer. Therefore I don’t get asked that question often. When it happens, I say “adventure or young adult fantasy” and then ad “always with a gay main character”. I consider that in any book, the plot is the main ingredient. The main character being gay is a bonus, but isn’t enough in itself to make a book.
What does your family think of your writing?
My family doesn’t know I’m writing books, so I guess they don’t think anything of it. Only my fiancé knows.
Tell us about your current work in process and what you’ve got planned for the future.
I have three works in progress.
The first one, I’m about to write the final word. It is a standalone for a more mature audience than The Gaia Protocol. I like trying something new, to test my limits.
The second one is a thriller about a boy whose sister has been kidnapped, but I’ve put it on my back-burners for the time being.
The third one, is also the first story I’ve written, about phoenix- and dragon-shifters. It’s yet unpublished. I’ve translated it to French and I’m editing it extensively with some help from a friend in the hope to publish it by the middle of the year.
The next story I will work on will be The Gaia Protocol 2.
I also have several stories waiting. For now I’ve just written down the main plot and a few elements. Too many stories to write and too little time.
Do you have any advice for all the aspiring writers out there?
Never give up. Write, write, write. And remember, negative feed-back is useful to improve your writing.
If you could travel forward or backward in time, where would you go and why?
So many places to see, in so many different times… I’d probably go to ancient Greece, maybe follow everyone across the see to see the Trojan siege. I’d love to meet all those heroes…
