None are any more fortunate than Remember, and one by one they’re killed in various wars.

Review: Black Swan: An individual who is not a vampyre but who is close to one or more vampyres and is often a supporter of the community.
Part 1: The Black Swan
Gabe Granger and Remember Littlebury are spies for General Washington during the Revolutionary War. When Gabe is out on an assignment, he comes across two vampyres and is bitten. He could have made a choice to become a spy for the British vampyre, but refuses.
Remember shows up just in time to save Gabe, and regardless of Gabe being vampyre now, he is still accepted by General Washington. Gabe and Remember both go on to be valuable assets to the General, but Gabe becomes more to the men who are dying by helping them pass on peacefully.
Remember and Gabe are so much more to each other, and Remember becomes Gabe’s Black Swan. In order to hide their true feelings, and not be banished from their hometown of Braddockville, they married women. But, when they return home, they find things have seriously changed. They leave Braddockville, time passes, and they are called back to aid the country by now President Washington. Because of Gabe’s uniqueness, the knowledge about him was passed down through Secretaries of War. Gabe continued on through the Vietnam War, but after another Black Swan loss, Gabe wasn’t able to deal with these deaths any longer and resigned his government position.
Gabe has gone without a Black Swan for many years, but a mysterious friend, Mother Morwen, tells him the name of the Black Swan who is meant to be his.
Part 2: The Golden Circle Matchmaking Agency
Noah Poynter, at the age of five, was found to be a Black Swan. It’s something Noah had always wanted, but his father lied to him for years. To avoid him ever meeting Gabriel Granger, Noah was always sent away to relatives. As he got older, college took him away from home, and by 2015, Noah had gotten his master’s degree and returned home. With his parents retired to Florida, he wants to run the Golden Circle tavern which has been in his family for years. He finally meets Gabe and they become friends. Noah still thinks he will never be Gabe’s Black Swan, and sets up a matchmaking agency to try and find a match for him. I liked Noah’s character; he’s a little naïve, but he eventually stands up for himself.
The Black Swan was an enjoyable read for me, and a very different view of the vampyre and their Black Swans. The story takes us through history, through wars and a love that turns tragic. It’s a sad story, in its way, because Gabe lives on while everyone who is human/Black Swan passes away, but Gabe faithfully returns to Braddockville for times a year to pay respect to those he’s lost.
