Blurb: Angel Daniels grew up hard, one step ahead of the law and always looking over his shoulder. A grifter’s son, he’d learned every con and trick in the book but ached for a normal life. Once out on his own, Angel returns to Half Moon Bay where he once found… and then lost… love.
Now, Angel’s life is a frantic mess of schedules and chaos. Between running his bakery and raising his troubled eleven-year-old half brother, Roman, Angel has a hectic but happy life. Then West Harris returns to Half Moon Bay and threatens to break Angel all over again by taking away the only home he and Rome ever had.
When they were young, Angel taught West how to love and laugh, but when Angel moved on, West locked his heart up and threw away the key. Older and hardened, West returns to Half Moon Bay and finds himself face-to-face with the man he’d lost. Now West is torn between killing Angel or holding him tight.
But rekindling their passionate relationship is jeopardized as someone wants one or both of them dead, and as the terrifying danger mounts, neither man knows if the menace will bring them together or forever tear them apart.
Review: Angel Daniels has not led an easy life. An abusive father and missing mother did not make his life secure or nurturing. His hard life also dropped his half-brother on his doorstep, and Angel is determined to make Roman’s life better and easier than his own.
West Harris had a seemingly easier life. He has known Angel most of it–they were friends, and then they grew apart. Angel falls back into West’s life, and a series of unfortunate events pushes them to finally admit their feelings and get back to a place where love is more important than their very different lives.
But someone is trying to end one of their lives, Roman is turning into a cynical grifter like his father, and West loves to love Angel but hates feeling like the passion they once shared may be slipping away.
The return to Half Moon Bay gives us a whole new story to enjoy. Characters from the last book show up and give us insights into their lives since last we met them. Then, there’s the possibility of the irrepressible Zig, from book one, being smitten by and in cahoots with the precocious Roman. There are so many rich layers here that get fully explored by Rhys Ford in her usual grand style.
But the real treasure here for audiobook listeners is Greg Tremblay. Tremblay took over the series narration from someone else, and has totally given us a gift. His voice gives every character, big or small, their own personality. Each player gets the full treatment, and their motivations and passions are on full display under his amazing talent.
This may be book two in a series, but it is a whole new world that deserves a listen. Those familiar with M/M fiction will probably know the incredible talents of Tremblay already, but on the off chance you’ve never had the pleasure, this is your chance to hear a true talent who doesn’t skimp on the words or the action. The love scenes have the proper pacing, and the action scenes have all the energy of a movie. That’s all due to the talent of Greg Tremblay. Buy this book. Enjoy this book. Convince other people to buy it and listen to the great narration.
