Blurb: Since the death of their mother, Josten Applewhite has done what he’s had to do to take care of his little brother and keep their small family together. But in an instant, a stroke of bad luck tears down what little home he’s managed to build, and Jos and Isaac end up on the streets.
That’s were Officer Kip Rogers finds them, and even though he knows he should let the proper authorities handle things, he cannot find it in his heart to turn them away, going so far as to invite them to stay in his home until they get back on their feet. With the help of Kip and his friends, Jos starts to rebuild his life. But experience has taught him nothing comes for free, and the generosity seems too good to be true—just like everything about Kip.
Kip’s falling hard for Jos, and he likes the way Jos and Isaac make his big house feel like a home. But their arrangement can’t be permanent, not with Jos set on making his own way. Then a distant relative emerges, determined to destroy Jos’s family, and Kip knows Jos needs him—even if he’s not ready to admit it.
Review: On a rainy evening in Carlisle, Officer Kip Rogers finds Josten Applewhite and his little brother, Isaac, huddled in a doorway, trying to keep out of the elements. Josten’s life has just fallen apart—no job, no place to live, no money, and a little brother who needs his love and protection.
After running across Jos more than once, Kip sticks to his promise to not just help but to do something for those in need. He makes the decision not to let Jos and Isaac go back to the streets. He takes them home and then seeks advice and a helping hand from friends and fellow officers.
Jos is filled with so much pride, and he wants to prove he can make a life for himself and Isaac. He’s also wary of what Kip expects in return for his help. Along with the other personal issues, Jos has to worry about losing Isaac to an aunt who’s only looking out for herself, and a predator from the streets.
In the continuing saga of the Carlisle Cop, Andrew Grey brings hope, pride and a little suspense and drama to Fire and Rain. He creates a special bond and understanding between Jos and Kip that makes this an emotional and heartwarming novel. With Jos and Isaac entering his life, Kip starts to realize the joy he gets from having a family, and he doesn’t want to lose something so precious. This series is also about amazing friends who don’t hesitate to come forward and help out. What makes the Carlisle Cops so special is the great characters who return in each book and have become an extended family to one another in this series.
