Blurb: Doctor Gavin Addison’s marriage didn’t end on the friendliest of terms, and his estranged wife’s continual harassment has the local police visiting his home so often they’ve started calling him “the doc.” One of those cops, Officer Lex Turner, has a crush on the handsome doc, even though he knows there’s no chance the doc would ever consider dating a man.
A chance encounter on a crowded dance floor ends with both men in the same bed with the same woman—but with questionable results. When the doc wants to try that again, Lex becomes more involved than he’d dreamed possible as he helps his new friend navigate the kinkier side of sex. Knowing it’s just sex for Gavin, Lex finds it hard to keep his feelings hidden. But when Gavin finally figures out he has feelings for Lex that go beyond what a guy should feel for his buddy, will he let Lex convince him to take a chance with him—even if it turns both their lives upside down?
Review: To be completely forthright, I picked this book up because it was a bisexual romance with a MFM threesome, and I like cops and doctors. That’s it. I didn’t really pay attention to the blurb, but maybe I should have.
As a work of erotica, it was fantastic. I don’t often get to read bisexual male fiction where there are vaginas and breasts in the mix, so I felt super lucky. Yay, boobs! And there wasn’t just one scene with a threesome, there were two! Not only that, but I got to move away from that aspect of the fantasy in later parts of the novel and get into some great guy on guy sex, and a few contemporary issues concerning bisexual men and relationships. There was a ton of drama, more explanatory dialog and discussions than I’d ever want in any of my fiction ever again, and the erotica had more of my—cough—attention than the story, but I enjoyed myself.
As for the story itself… there were some real plotting concerns. First off, I don’t think the story started where it should have, and not only did the beginning drag, but the end dragged too. We reached the resolution at eighty-eight percent through the book, and then there was a twist that came out of nowhere and protracted the last twelve percent of the book into dullsville. An overextended epilogue didn’t help matters.
There was also the matter of bad communication. Both guys seemed to talk more than anyone I’ve ever met, but then they conveniently didn’t discuss the important things, which led to this rather terrible misunderstanding as a plot driver that ended with one of the characters assaulting and battering the other. And then they made up and everything was fine again. What. The. Hell.
I don’t have the spoons to go into how wrong that is, so I won’t. If you want my advice, I’d just stop reading before eighty-eight percent.
