Blurb: Can a merman and an Atlantean, separated by centuries and prejudices, find love together?
Merman Delwyn is an Oracle of the past. He loves nothing better than observing the comings and goings of those who lived centuries before he was born. His favourite time period to visit is the days when both Atlantean and mer inhabited the sunken city of Atlantis, and his guilty pleasure is watching lovers come together in passion. Secure in the knowledge that no one can see him when he’s viewing the past, nothing can prepare Delwyn for the moment Fabian, an Atlantean living in the past, speaks to him.
Fabian is a man with divided loyalties. The demi-god son of the Goddess of Sea Creatures has sworn to serve the Goddess of Prophecy as her Oracle of the present. His unique status gives him the power to see anything in the present, including the mysterious merman voyeur from the distant future.
Despite the centuries that separate them, Delwyn and Fabian find they have a lot in common and quickly form a friendship that both hope one day will become something more. But before they can be together in the present, Delwyn and Fabian must unravel the mysteries of the past.
Only time will tell if the truth about the long-since vanished Atlanteans will bring them together or tear them apart, as the battle for the sunken city of Atlantis begins.
Review: L.M. Brown is back again, with her sexy and sweet mermen and the fight for control of Atlantis. Fair warning, this is not a stand-alone novel, and the books must be read in order to grasp the full scope of this complex and descriptive world. Just like with all the other books, once I started this novel, I couldn’t put it down until the end.
I love that we have returned to one of the first characters introduced in the series and get his story, as well as the story of a newly introduced character. Delwyn’s beginnings with Prince Finn bring the story full circle as the consequences of all the previous laws and mermen rules are changed to adapt the dwindling society.
It isn’t until Delwyn drifts far into the past that the legends are made clear and the fate of their fellow mermen comes to a head. Working with Fabian in the past, and on his own in the present, the two men learn about one another and find out that they are meant to be. The gods both aid and hinder the efforts of the two men, but they remain steadfast in their love and convictions.
As they fight for their way of life and liberty, sacrifices are made. Some to an awful degree. It broke my heart to lose a beloved character, but it is the reality of war, and I love that Brown pulled no punches. The emotional impact for all of the characters was devastating, and I hurt for them as well.
Though the ending was happy for our main couple of the novel, others’ lives were turned upside down, and I can’t wait to see how Brown draws us back into the briny deep to continue this fantastic tale.
