Please join us in welcoming author S.A. Meade to TNA today on the tour for her new release, The Unexpected Truth. She’s talking about pantsing–strictly in the writing sense, of course! And there’s also a giveaway, so be sure to check out those details below.
Welcome, SA!
Erm…This Wasn’t How the Story Was Supposed to Go
When I started work on An Unexpected Truth, I had a vague idea of writing a nice, light romance with a scattering of angst set in the horseracing world. The trainer would fall in love with a racehorse owner, there would be misunderstandings, arguments, making-up from said arguments…you know, the usual stuff. Nothing too demanding.
Boy, was I ever wrong.
I’m one of those disorganised authors who, when embarking on a new story, has a beginning and an end and a vague idea about what’s going to happen in between. In other words, I’m a pantser. But something happened somewhere along the way. One of my characters decided he didn’t like the less-than-interesting past I had in mind for him. Oh no, he was something altogether unexpected. (Hence the title). Trouble is, I can’t give away his secret in this blog post. Just take my word for it, he grabbed hold of the plot and steered it in a completely different direction. I had to write things I’d never written about before, things I’d never thought of writing about before.
He has some serious secrets that he let slip as the story progressed. At times it didn’t feel as if I was writing, He was. The end result is something unlike anything I’ve written before. For starters it’s in 3rd person, when all my previous MM novels have been in 1st person. Again, it wasn’t a conscious choice. I’d written half of the first chapter before I realised.
I can’t complain. It’s the first new story I’ve written for three years. It was a lot of fun to write—a real roller-coaster. There are horses, handsome men, and…well…if you want to know what happens, you’ll just have to read it to find out what that unexpected truth is.

If Adam survives, will his past destroy their future?
