Blurb: A summer fling is an ideal cure for a broken heart. But when it’s with your best friend, things get complicated.
When Adam is dumped by his boyfriend, a week away at a beach resort seems like a great opportunity to get over his ex. Sun, sea, and no-strings sex will be just the boost he needs to move on with his life.
Adam’s best friend, Finn, agrees to accompany him at short notice. Finn’s had a crush on Adam for years, but is determined to put his feelings aside and be the perfect wingman in Adam’s time of crisis.
A spontaneous threesome with another guy forces Adam and Finn to confront their attraction to each other. Having a holiday fling together wasn’t part of the plan, and as their trip heats up, they soon realize that one night of fun won’t be enough for either of them.
The passion might be scorching, but their hearts and friendship are on the line. If their romance is going to survive the flight home, they have to be honest about what they want.
Review: This was my very first audio book, so I was super excited to listen to it. And, I wasn’t disappointed! Mark Steadman has a great voice, and even though I’m more familiar with an American accent (he has an English one—as was logical. The characters are from England), I didn’t have a problem understanding him. He was annunciating very well, and his accent wasn’t very heavy. This might not be an issue for a native speaker, but it would have been very difficult for me to get through the book if I was constantly trying to guess the words he used through the meaning of the rest of the sentence.
The story was good and as this is a summer read, it contained a vacation and a lot of time in the sun. The progression of the relationship was very fast, especially considering that Adam had just broken up with his boyfriend of five years. On the other hand, these two had known each other for years, and were really close. Also, this is a light read that took place in barely two weeks’ time, so I was prepared to let some things slide.
I liked the beginning of their relationship a lot, so, basically, two thirds of the book—more than the time after they opened up about their feelings. Everything started with a threesome, but it was clear that there was more between Adam and Finn than there was with the third person. Then there was a casual continuation of that night, but only with Adam and Finn involved, before they finally admitted their feelings for each other. I liked how they were trying to act as if it wasn’t a big deal, them sleeping together, but both of them felt anything but that.
There was basically no drama in the book, and I liked that. Light summer read? Nailed it!
I didn’t like the ending scene with Brian, but I guess it was there to show that Adam made his choice and he had a future with Finn because he wanted it, and not because he couldn’t have Brian. It ended more in a HFN than a HEA, but that was ok too.
This was a light friends-to-lovers summer story with a lot of sun, fun and salty water. I enjoyed it a lot, and I’ll be probably listen to it again during some road trip. I’ll be sure to check out more books narrated by Mark Steadman in the future. He has a good voice and was able to keep me in the story.
Recommended, but read this on a beach. It’s summer!
