Welcome, Elyse!
Finding Sara’s Romance in the Seasons of Love Series
Confession: I never planned to write this book.
I also never planned for Sara Walker, the worried (and, let’s be honest, lovingly exasperated) best friend from Whiteout, to get her own story.
When I sat down to plot out the Seasons of Love arc, I knew there would be four books for the four seasons, and that they’d all revolve in some vague way around a production of Rent. I also knew that the summer book would be hot and sexy—the kind of book you read with a large glass of ice water at your side.
Sara in Whiteout was not the passionate, heated woman I expected to be writing about for a summer-themed romance. But then I was re-reading my first draft of Thaw and noticed a throwaway line that I’d forgotten all about:
Sara let out a low whistle. “Damn, girl,” she said. “If I wasn’t straight, I’d tap that.”
And I knew in that moment that not only was Sara not straight, but with the right partner she’d be an absolute firecracker in bed.
Laura was the spark that lit Sara aflame. Laura, who is sassy and sexy and openly proud of her bisexuality, and who ends up being the fan that stokes Sara’s fire. And from their very first on-page interaction in Thaw, I knew that these two ladies could balance each other out personality-wise. Laura’s cheerful extrovert personality helps to temper Sara’s… well, resting bitch face and dislike of humanity. And their casual approach to sex meant that a ‘friends with benefits’-to-love relationship would definitely be plausible.
There’s one more dialogue exchange in Thaw that I love, because it always makes me laugh:
“I have no idea why anyone comes to me for relationship advice,” Sara said. “It’s not like I’ve had the best run of luck with the men I’ve dated.”
“Maybe you should give the ladies a try, then,” Abby teased.
Sara laughed, rolling her eyes. “You’re hilarious.”
Oh Sara, you have no idea what’s in store for you…
About the Book
Sara Walker’s life is going nowhere fast: she has a job she enjoys but doesn’t love, friends who are too busy to hang out with her, and no boyfriend in sight. Then a phone call on a lonely Friday night changes everything, and suddenly she’s spending her weekends with Laura. Newly single and openly bisexual, Laura makes Sara think decidedly not-straight thoughts.
Laura Murphy, with her red hair, freckles, and killer curves, is any guy’s wet dream. But Laura’s done with guys for now, and it’s Sara who can’t stop dreaming about her. When Sara finally gives in to the curiosity, Laura blows her mind and pushes her further than she’s ever gone before.
But Laura makes it very clear that this is only a rebound fling, and she’s still planning to move to California. She’s more than happy to tie Sara up, but she’s not ready to be tied down. If Sara wants to keep her, she’s going to have to work hard to convince Laura that New York is worth staying for . . . and so is she.
