Blurb: ll that glitters is not gold. No-frills cowboy Evan learned that lesson the hard way while married to a rodeo princess, a relationship that was all flash and no substance. At least Evan held on to his daughter, Cheyenne, and his best friend, Brooks, when the sparkle wore off and things fell apart. Life could be a lot worse.
But it could also be better… if Evan and Brooks took a step beyond friendship. Just as they start to explore their feelings, Evan’s ex-wife sticks her nose in to sabotage them. Suddenly everything is up in the air, and they have difficult choices to make about the rodeo, Cheyenne, and the romance they both want so badly to pursue.
Review: With the departure of his wife, Sandra, five years ago, Evan became a single parent. His daughter, Cheyenne, is his world.
Brooks has been a constant in Evan and Cheyenne’s life. Evan and Brooks have been riding the rodeo circuit, as partners, for years. If one is not doing so well on the tour, the other is always there to give support in any way he can. Cheyenne sometimes gets to come along on the rodeo tours, but times are getting harder as she’s growing up, and though he gets support from his parents, Evan wants to give his daughter a more stable home life. Evan’s momma is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her granddaughter, though, and she really gives a good home life to all.
As Evan and Brooks discover they have more in common, they have to deal with Sandra when she becomes a woman scorned. She’s not only trying to destroy a stable life for Cheyenne, but she’s also making it more difficult for Evan and Brooks in the rodeo world.
Julia Talbot brings us a little sweet in this short but drama filled novella, with some steamy and sexy too. It’s a well-written read and has all the makings of an enjoyable rodeo romance, and you also get a good feel for all the characters’ personalities. I liked Evan and Brooks, but Brooks stole the show with his snarky and no-holds-barred reactions to Sandra. I liked Sparkle and Shine for a quickie read!
