Cover Girl
Thunder and Lightning is my 50th book. Iβve had all kinds of covers, from those with no models to those with some of the most beautiful male models out there, including some very famous and overused ones. When I first spoke to AJ Corza, my cover artist, about what I wanted for the Death and Destruction series, I told her that I wanted to forgo the models entirely. I didnβt want the naked torsos or the same old pairings of two guys on these covers. Though theyβre fine for some folks, I wanted these books to stand out. I wanted them to highlight what the books were about, not who they were about.
The Death and Destruction series is about two male ATF special agents and in each story, they begin with some kind of case involving alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives. For Jarrett and Thayneβs introduction in Death and Destruction, I wanted a rather generic cover featuring a weapon. AJ played around with a couple concepts until she landed on the simple handgun in a holster. She put a beautiful colorful background in and a completely white background and the cover she produced was stunning.
She added fireworks for Flash and Bang, mining equipment for Slip and Slide, a chemical nerve agent molecule and symbol for Locked and Loadedβs cover, and an automatic rifle and palm trees for Point and Shoot, which takes place in Palm Springs, California. With Thunder and Lightning, which takes place on a Native American reservation, she went with a couple of feathers and a police-issue Glock. It was perfect.
I donβt think Iβve ever been so happy with covers and believe me, they are standouts in the marketplace. I know this because Iβve never had so many sales as with this series. Second only to this one, was the Masterβs Boys series which my then cover artist, Jeff Adkins, designed. I had originally planned four or five books for the series but he suggested I write six so that he could design six books, one in each color of the rainbow flag. The rainbow concept was brilliant, so different from the typical dark BDSM covers.
Covers do sell books. Donβt let anyone tell you differently. Iβve had some great ones and some real stinkers. Iβve also read some books where the models looked nothing like the characters in the book and it threw me off so badly, I ended up actually disliking what should have been a really enjoyable book to me. I would have much rather had a blank cover than one that didnβt show a model who didnβt match the story. When I first started reading romance novels as a kid, I cannot tell you how many times I flipped the book closed just to stare at that pirate or swashbuckler who was bending a woman over his arm. I used to dream about finding that kind of man. LOL.
I am really looking forward to the next concept AJ comes up with for me. Since the books are going to be large cat shifters, I canβt wait so see her put on paper what weβve talked about. Iβm super excited but I canβt really even hint about them here. I think theyβre going to be very different than any other shifter books out there.
You all know cover reveals are one of my most favorite things to doβ¦

About the Book
Jarrett Evans and Thayne Wolfe have been partnered in the ATF for nearly two years and their love and commitment to each other has grown over time. Now faced with one final challenge, the boys are headed to Arizona to help Thayneβs mom, stumbling headfirst into a brand new case. When a man is shot on Dotβs sisterβs ranch, their informal investigation leads to the Native American reservation bordering the property.
Juggling tricky tribal politics isnβt something Jarrett and Thayne are accustomed to but, as with most things in their lives, nothing is ever uncomplicated. When a surprise sighting shakes Thayne to his very foundation, they call out for help and their colleagues ride to the rescue along with a little help from the FBI. The mystery on the reservation only deepens when they start putting two and two together. Questionable cigarettes at the Ahtunowhiho Trading Post may be the least of their worries.
From the mean streets of Los Angeles to the vast deserts of Arizona, Thayne and Jarrett once again brave the minefields of bad guys, bigshots, and a vicious betrayal that kicks them in the ass. But one thing is certain. Thru thunder and lightning, Jarrett and Thayne are never alone. Theyβll fight for each other down to the last man standing, even if it costs them their very lives.
