Blurb: When he’s propositioned by a wealthy stranger, it seems Coy Conlin’s impoverished life is about to be upgraded. But before he can share the news with his family, he comes home to find his grandmother murdered and his little brother missing. To make matters worse, he’s thrown in prison along with every other shifter under the Sovereign’s orders.
August Seaton left his laboratory job at the Asuda Registry to become a Registry officer. But after a mission with his partner goes horribly wrong, August ends up with Coy’s dead grandmother on his hands, and Coy thinks he’s the murderer. Worst of all, his partner discovers his secret.
August is a shifter. And now he’s Coy’s cellmate. Coy and August must survive each other, abusive guards, and a scientist hell-bent on forcing Coy into a breeding program.
Teamed up, the pair escape prison and journey across the country. With the Registry hot on their trail, they have enough things to worry about. Falling for each other wasn’t supposed to be one of them.

The cliffs along the outskirts of Sago became a little more treacherous as he neared the town. It wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle, but it did require concentration to make it through the area without stumbling. It wasn’t long before he hit somewhat even ground and, subsequently, civilization. Amira’s pub was just four buildings down from Simone’s. Coy found the back door unlocked—it usually was—and slipped inside. The pub looked the same way it always did, dark and dreary like a dungeon. Amira was at the bar, towering over a group of people, her arms crossed. She was the picture of confidence and grace, her brown skin and cropped, dark hair immaculate. She stood like a goddess, both larger and taller than most of the men he knew.
For a moment, he watched her—her hands reaching for drinking glasses, heavily pierced ears listening to patrons’ orders, red lips curling. Probably flirting for more tips. He admired her—had always enjoyed being in the presence of her company—even back when the two of them were teenagers, when she was known as Raul and hardly ever smiled. She’d changed a lot over the years, both physically and mentally. She was happier now, always smiling.
“How long are you going to stand there staring at me, Coy Conlin?” Amira asked from her spot behind the bar. “Don’t think I didn’t notice you slip in through the back door.”
Coy smirked as he approached her, maneuvering himself past a couple of women entwined in each other’s embrace.
“Back door’s my favorite place to slip in,” he said.
She rolled her eyes. “What are you doing in Sago? Simone said you weren’t working tonight.”
“She’s right. I’m not, but I needed to get out of Hamet for a while. Thought I’d stop by and see my favorite bartender.” He caught sight of a flyer on the counter advertising a party that would take place several months away. “Getting an early start, aren’t you? Another one of your sex parties?”
“You stopped by because you wanted free drinks and—” She looked him up and down. “—from the looks of things, to get laid.” She tapped the flyer with a grin, her red, painted lips stretched wide. “I want a good turnout this year. And it’s not a party. It’s an extravaganza.”
Coy snorted. She got a great turnout every year.
“You mentioned getting laid. Are you offering?”
She threw a dishrag at him, wet and sticky with spilled beer. He dodged it. “Not on your long, draconic life.”
“That’s not the only long thing of mine, Amira, my love.”
“Save it and look over there.” She nodded in the direction of a nearby table.
Coy turned, following her gaze.
“Who is that?”
“I don’t know his name. He’s been coming in here a lot lately. Pretty, isn’t he?”
“That’s an understatement,” he murmured.
The slim-hipped man made his way through the pub, sauntering through the crowd
of people. All eyes were on him. Judging by his upturned nose, he was used to the
attention.
“Interesting… Amira, can I borrow your office for an hour?” Amira rolled her eyes and sighed. “Make sure you clean up afterward. I’m not running a brothel.”
“I know,” Coy said. “But, it’s something to consider.”
He winked at her, moving away from the bar and toward the pretty, blond man standing in the center of the pub.
Diamonds in the shape of teardrops hung from his ears.
“Well, you certainly look out of place,” Coy said. The man startled, his shoulders tensing from the sudden voice behind him. “Oh, sorry about that. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
Turning around to face him, the man seemingly recovered. “You didn’t.”
“Good to know. I’m Coy.”
