“Scorpio Hates Virgo” contains sarcasm, sexual content, a slightly sappy HEA, and an unhealthy obsession with dinosaurs. It can be read as a standalone.

Review: Cuuuuuuute. Cute, cute. There is just something so charming and lovely about Anyta Sunday’s writing. And, so smart and funny, as is the case in her newest release, Scorpio Hates Virgo, the follow up to last winter’s Leo Loves Aries, which I also completely adored. The banter is once again fabulously sharp and witty; I just absolutely loved these characters and the whole vibe and premise of the book from the very beginning.

After being kicked out by his parents at age seventeen, Percy Freedman goes to live with his Aunt Abby on her lively little cul-de-sac street in the Twin Cities. It’s there that he meets Cal Glover. For some reason, Percy and Cal almost immediately enter into this unspoken agreement to become fake nemeses. Which basically means that they eye-fuck and flirt with each other constantly, for years, while Percy uses his supposed hate for Cal as a way to stop himself from falling for a straight guy. But, when Percy’s beloved aunt dies and leaves him the house, necessitating he return home, he finds Cal has temporarily moved home as well, and is more desirable than ever.

I loved these guys. It’s an extremely slow burn, though they’re sexy as hell together once they get there, but in the meantime their verbal sparring is priceless. Their fake disdain for each other is practically comical, and it starts to become painfully obvious that everyone in the cul-de-sac knows they’re in love well before they figure it out. It’s not all snark and frenemies, though… There is a very real friendship underneath it all, and after being in each other’s company almost constantly for a few weeks, they begin to realize how deep their feelings actually go, and how much they need each other.

On top of being light and fun, this story is also very sweet. It’s about neighbors being there and helping one another through whatever life throws at them. It’s about creating your own family. And, it’s about learning to trust others enough to lean on them, and believe they aren’t always going to leave you. The Glover family—Cal’s family—are all amazing, and Percy is so lucky to have them in his life. The cul-de-sac crew was eclectic and wonderful and real. And, it was so fun to get a little cameo from Theo and Jamie, and Leone, from Leo Loves Aries!

I’m going to leave you with this passage that I loved:

This smile was the secret that Percy had always yearned to fall from Cal’s bottom-heavy lip. It whispered love and commitment. Promised that nothing else in the world mattered except them, and yet, the tiniest trace of sarcasm filtered through. As though he still wanted to stir him a little crazy.

Even after they decided they were no longer nemeses, and admitted what they meant to each other, we know they’re still Perseus and Callaghan at their roots.

I hope there is more to come in the Signs of Love series, because I totally adore it.
