Blurb: Come to Rainbow Island, where all your sexual fantasies will come true.
James, Guard and Damien continue to grant the sexual fantasies of their clients, but so far have been unable to make Rainbow Island work for their own relationship. Damien misses being home more often with his lovers and Guard has been working on breaking down James’ defenses. Can they make their own fantasies come true?
As always, three different fantasies are granted through Rainbow Island.
Tim is rich and bored. A ‘sometimes sub’, he’s searching for something more. Full-time Dom, Rain, is brought in to give Tim the twenty-four-seven experience he’s been looking for, but Rain has a secret—he’s been watching Tim in the club for years, just waiting for Tim to get serious before making his move. Can these two men find what they need in each other?
Mike has been hired to be a submissive. He doesn’t know that much about the lifestyle. He figures he can handle it—besides, the payday is too good to give up. Dom Brendan is handsome and confident, and the things he shows Mike speak to something deep inside him. Could he have found something more than just another job in Brendan?
Angus and Robbie are a committed Dom/sub pair who want to spice things up a little and see if puppy play is for them. They’re excited and nervous to learn from Sam, the puppy master that Rainbow Island has brought in to show them the ropes. They discover there’s more to puppy play than they’d imagined and not all of it is for them. Can they separate what they need from what they want and come out stronger than ever in the end?
Reader Advisory: This book contains fisting, scenes of puppy play and the use of urethral sounds.
Review: This book was written for all those who wanted closure on James, Guard and Damien’s story. Sean Michael is very upfront that the storyline for these characters needed to come full-circle, and that the reprint of the first two books by his new publisher breathed enough life back into the series that he thought it was time. Thank you, Sean!!! I have wanted the ending for these men for years! Honestly, the Rainbow Island series caught my attention right from the get go. The premise of the books, that there would be a place which caters to your every fantasy, I thought intriguing. Each book in the series gives us three scenarios centered around the BDSM lifestyle, and while the vignettes are hot and emotionally touching, it is the polyamorous relationship of the three men who run the island that captures your interest.
James, Guard and Damien’s story begins in the first book, so if you haven’t read books one and two, you will be a little lost in this one. We only get snippets of their past at the beginning and end of these books. But we have enough to know that James and Guard were Doms to their sub Damien. They each have roles in the running of the island. Damien is responsible for finding people to help fulfill all the roles the fantasies require. Unfortunately, it was he who’d found a man who flipped mentally, attacked James, and left him in a wheelchair. The relationship between the three has been broken ever since. Damien cannot handle the guilt, James cannot get over the loss of his legs, and poor Guard struggles being the glue to hold them all together. If you don’t know their history, James’s capitulation early in this book will seem too sudden. It’s not. James has struggled for years, and only in book two do the three start to turn the corner to becoming whole once again. I would have loved a good sex scene, though, with the triad dynamic at work. Didn’t get one, but oh well. I got a HEA, so that will have to do me.
The first fantasy is about Tim and Rain. Rain is a Dom who has been watching Tim move from one master to another, for years, never finding what he truly needs. Tim was an executive, an incredibly smart person who created his own company and then sold it for millions. Used to pushing and being the one in control, he has never found a Dom who could take him in hand, or that he felt he could give the reins over to with comfort. It took a little bit for me with these two, though by the end of the fantasy I was on board with their relationship, but the chemistry took some time for me to believe.
The second fantasy is Brendan and Mike. Brendan has been in the lifestyle for quite a while. He’s bored with all the regular subs at the clubs he goes to. He’s become jaded, somewhat, and truly wants to reconnect with what he loves about being a Dom. His fantasy is to have a sub who has never been anywhere near a BDSM club. He wants to know that whatever reactions he elicits from the man, they will be genuine and unaffected. Mike has always had a nomadic lifestyle. When Guard offers him a significant amount of cash to be a submissive for three weeks, he jumps at the chance. This second fantasy was pure Sean Michael. Mike is expressive, he approaches all Brendan’s wishes with an openness, both emotionally and physically. Mike is everything Brendan ever hoped for in a submissive, and the two men click on an intrinsic level. Watching Mike experience everything for the first time, even undergoing the piercing Brendan asks for, was touching.
The third fantasy centers around an established, married, 24/7 couple, and I will tell you this one was my favorite. Angus and Robbie are hoping to add puppy play into their scenes. However, the dynamics in puppy play turn the dynamics between Angus and Robbie upside down. Robbie is used to handling all his Dom’s needs; at heart he is a service sub, and loves to anticipate his Dom’s every need and provide it. He’s also very vocal. Angus has always loved Robbie’s voice, and the noises he makes help Angus keep track of his sub’s happiness. As a puppy, Robbie cannot take care of Angus. Angus must take care of Robbie—anticipate his every need. Robbie also cannot talk as a puppy, something he struggles with and causes him great distress. Great communication has always been their hallmark, but when you cannot talk, how do you communicate? This story was all about stretching boundaries and discovering new things about each other, breathing life back into a relationship that neither realized had become somewhat status quo. It was all about the trust these two men had to reaffirm with each other and how, even if you have been married a long time, there are still new things you can learn about your spouse. For these two it wasn’t about the puppy play, it was about the discovering of new limits and the journey it took to get there.
Overall, I’m glad Sean Michael finished this trilogy. Start with the first one and read them in order. I recommend them all. I feel I can let this series go now, mentally, that it’s come full circle, and I can bring the books back up and read them all again knowing I won’t be left hanging. Now, if I could just get Sean Michael to revisit those hot guys from the Drawing Straws Series….
