Welcome, Kim!
Viva Las Vegas
I don’t really enjoy gambling; cigarette smoke makes me gag; and while I indulge in an adult beverage now and then, I’d prefer not to drink it from a large plastic cup while navigating crowds. Still, Vegas fascinates me. It’s tacky. It’s noisy. It’s often just plain old bizarre. But it’s like no other place on Earth, and it has some of the best people-watching in the world.
It’s also inspired two of my books: Motel. Pool., which released in 2014, and Ante Up, which just came out yesterday. Both are paranormal novels. I think after a little time in Vegas, almost anything seems plausible.
One thing I like about Vegas are the shows and other entertainment. A couple years ago I went to the Chippendales show with two of my favorite authors, Eli Easton and Charlie Cochet, and that was a lot of fun. Earlier this year, my husband and I saw Absinthe and Zumanity. We had a great time. We also really liked the National Atomic Testing Museum. Next month we’re planning an afternoon in an escape room.
The city has other attractions too. It’s a great place to walk; if the weather becomes too hot, you can log a lot of miles in fake Venice, fake New York, fake Rome, fake Paris, and so on. There are plenty of eating options. And over-the-top hotel rooms can be had for a reasonable price. The suite we stayed in last time was bigger than our first house and had more bathrooms. You controlled the windows and lights and other things with a tablet. The turndown service was amazing.
Still, though, my favorite thing about Vegas is that my muse likes it. Ante Up came about after a couple of lines of thought converged. First, wouldn’t Vegas be a great place for a vampire? All the nightlife a vamp could ever want, plus an endless parade of strangers to snack on—strangers often too drunk to exercise caution. And second, although the Mafia has apparently lost its sway in Vegas, what if it had been replaced by a different sort of organized crime? One with a paranormal bent?
What are your thoughts on Vegas? If you’ve been, what did you like? If you haven’t, would you like to? Please share in the comments, and don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter below.
About the Book
Love is a high-stakes game.
A century and a half ago, Ante Novak died on a Croatian battlefield—and rose three days later as a vampire. Now he haunts Las Vegas, stealing blood and money from drunken gamblers and staying on the fringe of the powerful vampire organization known as the Shadows. His existence feels empty and meaningless until he meets beautiful Peter Gehrardi, who can influence others with his thoughts.
An attraction flares instantly, bringing a semblance of life to Ante’s dead heart. But the Shadows want Peter too, and they’re willing to kill to get him. As Ante and Peter flee, they learn more about themselves and each other, and they discover that the world is a stranger place than either of them imagined. With enemies at their heels and old mistakes coming back to exact a price, how can Ante and Peter find sanctuary?

About the Author
Kim Fielding is the bestselling author of numerous m/m romance novels, novellas, and short stories. Like Kim herself, her work is eclectic, spanning genres such as contemporary, fantasy, paranormal, and historical. Her stories are set in alternate worlds, in 15th century Bosnia, in modern-day Oregon. Her heroes are hipster architect werewolves, housekeepers, maimed giants, and conflicted graduate students. They’re usually flawed, they often encounter terrible obstacles, but they always find love.
After having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls the boring part of California home. She lives there with her husband, her two daughters, and her day job as a university professor, but escapes as often as possible via car, train, plane, or boat. This may explain why her characters often seem to be in transit as well. She dreams of traveling and writing full-time.
