Audiobook Tour: Interview and Giveaway ~ Dyeing to Be Loved by Aimee Nicole Walker

Lisa: Welcome to author Aimee Nicole Walker and the Dyeing to Be Loved audiobook tour. Thanks for stopping by today, Aimee, let’s get right to business:

If you could spend some real-life time with one of the characters in the book, who would you choose and why?

Aimee: Josh Roman from my Curl Up and Dye Mysteries. I just feel like I connect with him better than all the others. It feels like I’ve ripped him from my soul. I’d pack my bags and move to Blissville in a heartbeat.

Lisa: What’s the one genre/sub-genre you haven’t written yet, but would love to? What’s kept you from it so far?

Aimee: I’ve stretched my legs a bit by publishing mystery and paranormal in addition to contemporary romances this year. I’d really love to write a twisted, erotic series someday. The only thing preventing me from doing it is that a unique storyline hasn’t presented itself to me. The story feels like it’s right there, but just out of my reach. It will happen when the time is right.

Lisa: If you could choose one of your books to be adapted for the silver screen, which would you choose? Why do you think it would translate well to film?

Aimee: The Curl Up and Dye Mysteries. I think the Dye Hard fans feel a closer connection to Josh and Gabe because they have a five-book series so far. That allows us to know them better, so they feel like people we know. We expect to run into them at the grocery store. There’s a theme of family, friends, and love in the series that we all want for ourselves. It’s a story about opening our hearts and overcoming stereotypes.

Lisa: Tell us a little bit about the audition process for Dyeing to Be Loved. How many auditions did you listen to before you chose your narrator? Or, did you know who you wanted from the beginning?

Aimee: I wanted one narrator and one narrator only. There was never a doubt in my mind once I heard samples of Joel’s other audiobooks.

Lisa: What made Joel Leslie the perfect fit for your book? What is it about his voice and narration style that you like?

Aimee: Joel Leslie isn’t just a narrator, he’s a true performer. This isn’t a guy who just reads the words on the pages. He truly gets into the roles of each character, becomes them, and brings the characters to life. It was truly an incredible experience.

Lisa: What does it feel like to have your words, the words you wrote, being read back to you? Does it feel a little strange at all?

Aimee: The only strange or awkward moments for me were the sex scenes. My husband would glance over and see my pink cheeks and say, “Oh, you must be listening to the sexy parts.”

Lisa: Assuming you know what your characters sound like in your head as you’re writing them—their accents, their cadence of speech, the timbre of their voices, etc.—do you offer much input to your narrators, or do you allow them to interpret the characters in their own way?

Aimee: I’d say a little of both. If I wanted a specific accent, then I requested it. Mostly I let Joel do his thing. He gathers a lot of information about all the characters and their backgrounds so he can accurately perform them.

Lisa: Are you an avid audiobook listener yourself? What are some of your own favorite audiobooks?

Aimee: Listening to Dyeing to Be Loved was my first real audiobook experience. I’ve purchased a few more of Joel’s audiobooks since then. I just need to make time to enjoy them.

Lisa: Let’s shift gears, now, and answer some questions just for fun. If you won the lottery, what’s the first completely self-indulgent thing you’d do?

Aimee: I’d buy a private island with lots and lots of trees affording me privacy.

Lisa: Let’s pretend you’re taking a road trip, and you can choose any three of your characters to go with you. First, who would you want on the ride-along, and why them?

Aimee: Sebastian, Xavier, and Josh. I chose them because Sebastian was my first M/M character to enter my head, Xavier would pick great music, and Josh because he would drive me crazy if I didn’t choose him. He’s such a diva.

Second, who would be most likely to:

*Have to hit every rest stop bathroom: Me

*Whine about how long it’s taking to get where you’re going: Josh

*Break wind with the windows rolled up: Sebastian

*Flip incessantly through songs on their music app: Xavier

Lisa: If you were stranded on a desert island, what are three things you’d absolutely have to have?

Aimee: Music, a method to write a book, lip balm.

Lisa: If you had to choose between becoming a superhero or supervillain, which would you choose and why?

Aimee: Villain! Maybe?!? Who doesn’t want to be a little bad sometimes?

Lisa: What would your superpower be?

Aimee: I’d be a modern-day Robin Hood. I’d want a nifty way to rob the super-rich and give to the poor. Villain to some, hero to others.

Lisa: If James Corden invited you to Carpool Karaoke, what song(s) would you sing with him?

Aimee: An 80s remix!

Lisa: If you could be any animal in the world, what would you choose? Why?

Aimee: Dolphin. The ocean calls to me and I admire their gracefulness.

Lisa: If you could travel back in time, with all your years of experience and wisdom intact, what advice would you give to your teenage self?

Aimee: I would tell myself not to be in such a hurry to grow up. I don’t regret any choices that I’ve made, but perhaps I could’ve delayed them a few years.

Lisa: Excellent answer! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us today, Aimee. It’s been a pleasure!

Tour Excerpt

My ringing phone woke me up. I was disoriented because it had grown dark while I napped on the couch with Diva and I momentarily forgot what day it was. I looked at the caller ID and was shocked to see who was calling me. I debated on letting it go to voicemail for about two seconds before I answered it.

“Hello?”

“How are you doing?” Gabe’s deep voice warmed parts of me that no amount of purring from a cat could affect.

“I’m doing okay,” I replied. Was I?

“You feel like having company?” I heard the slight hesitation in his voice, as if he wasn’t sure how well his question would be received.

I knew what happened almost every single time that we were alone together. Was that what I wanted right then? “Yes,” I said answering both of our questions.

“Good,” he said, his voice deepening because he also knew what would happen. “Come down and let me in.”

“You’re here now?” I stood up and ran my free hand through my hair in an attempt to smooth it into place.

“Yes. Come down here and let me in. I’m freezing my nuts off,” he groused.

“Give me a few minutes,” I said and then hung up. I flipped on a few lights on my way to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I rushed through my routine so that I didn’t keep him waiting long. It was freezing outside and I didn’t want his balls to freeze. I was pretty fond of them, even if I was unsure of the man they were attached to.

“It’s about time,” he said when I opened the door to him. “What the hell took so long?”

I grabbed him by the coat and pulled him into me, pressing my lips against his. Gabe parted his cold lips and I slid my tongue inside to explore his warm mouth in a languid kiss. For once, I didn’t want to rush him into bed. I wanted to take my time and get to know his body better. Hell, I hadn’t even wrapped my lips around his big cock yet; a mistake I planned to rectify immediately.

“Minty fresh,” Gabe said, when our kiss ended. “You’re forgiven for making me wait.”

“Come upstairs with me and I’ll show you other things I can do with my minty fresh mouth.” I laughed when Gabe growled playfully. I needed to be careful or else I’d start liking the detective and the things he made me feel.

  1. Love hearing the audiobooks of books I love though sometimes the voice just doesn’t match how I pictured the characters still though they are excellent for when I travel long distances

  3. I love these two guys as their relationship and feelings deepen as the series moves from book to book. Their friends are wonderful and the new characters added enrich the plot. I love both audio and books which I read, but find the price of audio book prohibitive since I read at least 5 a week. If I bought audio books I’d only be able to afford 2! I would love to hear this book!

  4. I love Joel Leslie’s performance of audio books. I didn’t much care for them until I listened to him perform one of my favorite books; it was love at first listen.
