Blurb: Frankie Faraday is a promising young salesperson at Mason’s Emporium. Bill Mason is his boss, the son of the store’s founder, and the object of Frankie’s long-suffering, deeply devoted crush. Bill is steady and sober; Frankie is frivolous and flaky. Or so they seem to each other, until the night of the annual inventory, when they’re trapped together in the Seasonal Gifts storeroom, with nothing but candy and peppermint schnapps to sustain them until they’re rescued. And then the real truths—and something definitely more intimate—emerge!
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2017 Advent Calendar “Stocking Stuffers.”
Review: Clare London is always a tried and true go-to author when I’m looking for a story infused with humor and English charm, and her contribution to this year’s Advent Calendar anthology has both as well as a wee sip of holiday sweet.
The obvious limitations of the short page count didn’t allow for backstory or a deeper character exploration, which is unfortunate when I took such an immediate liking to these blokes. But, alas, theirs is simply a cute slice-of-life scene, a fun snippet designed to bring two people—who might not have connected otherwise—together.
There’s a hint of opposites attract between Frankie Faraday’s purple glitter nail polish and fey mannerisms, and Bill Mason’s buttoned up but beautiful manager of Mason’s Emporium. This isn’t a meet-cute, in the strictest sense, considering Frankie is already an employee at Mason’s when the story begins, but the way he and Bill get together is still composed of tropey and romantic fun.
