Welcome to the Warlocks Series Blog Tour: An Interview with Author LM Somerton

Lisa: We’re so pleased to welcome author LM Somerton and the Warlocks Series blog tour the TNA today. Thanks so much for dropping by, LM! Let’s start with having you tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from and what do you write?

LM: I was born in Bath, Somerset and if you talk to me on the phone you’ll hear I haven’t quite lost the accent. I’ve worked in marketing communications for more years than I care to remember and now live in Northamptonshire. I’m married, with a teenage daughter.

Q: How did you get into writing M/M fiction?

A: It all started with a dare. I was between jobs and over lunch with a gay friend started talking about writing. He reckoned there was no way a straight female would ever be able to write mm romance and I had to prove him wrong. Obviously.

Q: You feature BDSM in your writing, what made you want to explore this kind of sexual activity?

A: It’s less about the kink and more about the complex psychology of relationships involving power exchange. That’s what interests me most. There is something inherently romantic about the trust involved.

Q: What kind of genres do you enjoy writing in?

A: All my published work to date has been mm with varying degrees of BDSM. I’ve written paranormal, contemporary, thrillers and adventure. My inspiration comes from all around me. The smallest thing can trigger a plot idea – a photograph, piece of music, a day out – they’ve all been responsible.

Q: What is a typical writing day like for you?

A: I don’t really have a typical day. I have a full time job so have to fit my writing around that. If I do get a rare day to myself, I start early. Large quantities of coffee are involved. I write slowly and often delete as much as I keep. I’m my own biggest critic and have zero self-confidence that what I’m writing is any good. I will happily write all day with breaks for fresh air and snacks though I can get distracted by the wonders of Facebook as my online friends will testify.

Q: What do your family and loved ones think of your success?

A: My parents were sixties teens – nothing I could do or say would ever shock them. My Dad thinks it’s hilarious and tells all his mates that I write gay porn – I’ve given up trying to re-educate him. My mum likes to ogle the covers. My husband is somewhat bemused but is quite content that I have something to keep me busy and consequently not nagging him. My daughter is too young to read the books yet and still at the heavy sigh stage when I make inappropriate comments about shirtless men on the TV.

Q: Who is your ultimate celebrity crush?

A: I can’t pick just one! Eoin Bailey, Wes Bentley, Liam Hemsworth, Douglas Booth, Sam Claflin… we could be here some time.

Q: If you could, what celebrities would you pair up in an MM scene?

A: Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney from Chicago Fire – preferably in uniform.

Q: Who are the authors who you love to read?

A: Kim Dare, Bailey Bradford, Morticia Knight and Parker Williams in the mm genre. Outside that, Rob Thurman, Jim Butcher, Mike Carey and Mark del Franco.

Lisa: Thanks again for being here with us today, LM, and best wishes!

Elemental Love

An untrained warlock is a dangerous man to love.

On his twenty-first birthday, Evrain Brookes discovers he is an elemental warlock. The spell suppressing his talent lifts and he has to get used to a whole new existence. The protection that kept him safe during his childhood is gone, his skills are wild and uncontrolled and there are those that seek to use him for their own gain.

Evrain’s grandmother is a witch, his godfather another warlock. Between them they do their best to keep Evrain on the right path. He learns that in order to gain control of his formidable powers, he will need to ‘channel’ through a life partner, a process that happens only with consent and through love. But how will he ever find a man prepared to put up with a Dominant warlock for a boyfriend?

Dominic Castine has no idea that Evrain’s grandmother sees him as a prospective partner for Evrain. He tends her garden and she teaches him about herbs—a trade-off they both enjoy. He is drawn to Evrain’s charismatic presence but doesn’t understand why he wants to drop to his knees and submit to him.

When Agatha is murdered, Evrain and Dominic are thrown together as she manipulates them from beyond the grave. Dominic becomes the pawn in a terrifying game between warlocks whose powers he barely comprehends.

In the end, lives will depend on his courage, his willingness to grant Evrain control and the power of love.

Present day

“You didn’t have to babysit me, Gregory. I’m quite capable of traveling alone, even if it is transatlantic.” Evrain glanced at the man seated next to him in the luxurious first-class cabin.

“Not that I don’t appreciate the ticket. I could get used to this. I usually get stuck in the back row with the delights of eau de chemical toilet.”

His godfather’s seat was slightly reclined. Gregory’s eyes were closed and a couple of faint lines furrowed the bridge of his nose. He opened one eye, revealing a slither of pale green.

“Is it over?” Gregory asked.

“Is what over?” Evrain asked in confusion. They had only been in the air ten minutes.

“Takeoff. I hate it. My stomach always stays on the tarmac while its contents journey in the wrong direction up my esophagus.”

“Ugh, gross!” Evrain groped in the pocket next to his seat and extracted a pristine paper bag. “Do you need this?”

Gregory opened his other eye. “No. But I could use a Bloody Mary. Where’s the trolleydolly?”

He jabbed at the call button.

“I’m sure he’ll be around in a moment. Give the poor guy a chance. He’s probably still strapped in his seat. I thought it was Coryn who didn’t like flying?”

“He loathes it, poor dear. I am entirely indifferent. It’s just the upping and downing parts that don’t agree with me. I have a delicate constitution.”

Evrain snorted. “Bullshit, Gregory. I’ve seen you down half a bottle of Jack alongside a pint of Rocky Road ice cream and that’s a combination that’s probably banned under international law. If it isn’t, it should be. You have a cast-iron stomach.”

“We have a wide range of beverages, sir, but that’s not a combination I can offer, I’m afraid. Nor would I advise it.”

Evrain, who was sitting in the aisle seat, turned to the air steward standing next to him.

The man had a huge grin on his face and a trolley stacked high with miniature bottles of every type of booze known to man.

“Something we can be thankful for,” Evrain said. “Could we have a couple of virgin Bloody Marys please?”

“Make that one virgin and one fully confirmed slut,” Gregory grouched. “Which category do you fall into, sweetheart?” he asked the steward whose name badge declared him to be called Samuel. A pair of pretty hazel eyes sparkled.

“I can see I’m going to have trouble with you, sir.”

He was cute. Not Evrain’s type, but the sandy hair that flopped into his eyes was endearing.

“Behave, Gregory, or I’ll tell Coryn.” Evrain swiveled back toward the aisle. “He’s married, Samuel, and old enough to know better.”

The steward mixed their drinks and handed them over. “Call me Sam. I fully intend to grow old disgracefully myself. Perhaps you could give me a few tips?” The last remark he aimed at Gregory.

Gregory opened his mouth but Evrain jumped in. “Please don’t get him started, Sam.

You’ll still be here in eight hours’ time and I’m sure the other passengers have need of your services.”

Elemental Hope

A warlock’s blood gives him life. It can also bring his death.

It’s no wonder Evrain Brookes, newly fledged warlock, is feeling the strain. A coven of power-hungry witches is after his blood. Literally. A psychotic warlock wants him dead. His godfather’s training regime is about as much fun as chewing on nettles and an overweight, scarily perceptive cat has moved into his house.

His boyfriend Dominic yearns for a normal life, or at least a safer one. He accepts his role both as Evrain’s submissive partner and as the conduit through which he channels his gift—but he’s afraid for his lover, and the lengths Evrain’s enemies might go to in order to fulfill their lust for power.

When Evrain falls victim to a plot between the Octis Coven and malevolent warlock Symeon Malus, it’s up to Dominic to rescue him. With the help of the two other North American warlocks, Shadow the cat and an old enemy, Dominic takes steps to get his lover back. There’s a high price to pay and no guarantee that the risks he must take will work out but Evrain is worth going through hell for, even if it costs Dominic his life.

Dominic Castine sat at the small garden table in a sheltered spot and tilted his face toward the sun. It was still early but promised to be a warm day for once. The heat on his skin was welcome and he pushed the fall of his hair back to expose more skin. He unfastened the two top buttons of his loose cotton shirt, which he wore over faded jeans. It was tempting to go shirtless but his pale skin was prone to burning and he hadn’t applied any sunscreen yet. He curled his bare toes into the cool grass, smiling at the slight tickle. A sense of peace enveloped him, the only sounds the rustle of leaves and the twittering of birds. He knew the instant Evrain rounded the corner of the cottage. The whole world betrayed him. Tree branches swayed in arboreal excitement and the birds went into paroxysms of ecstasy. A swirling breeze lifted Dominic’s shirt, exposing his belly. He rolled his eyes then raised them to meet his lover’s green gaze.

“Showoff.” Dominic reached for the pot of fresh coffee Evrain carried. He put it safely on the table before Evrain’s powers set the liquid inside to boiling. “I hope this is decaffeinated because you really don’t need the boost this morning.”

Evrain raised one dark eyebrow. Dominic withstood his scrutiny, though it took some courage to maintain eye contact.

“If things around here are a little…worked up, that is entirely down to you,” Evrain said.

Dominic couldn’t decide if it was threat or promise in Evrain’s tone but his cock responded as it always did, plumping into life. “How can you possibly blame me for your witchy-boy ways?” He wiggled his fingers in a vague imitation of Evrain’s movements when he was spellcasting.

“Because you sit there, shining like the sun, and you never fail to take my breath away.”

Dominic’s breath hitched.

“You’re also a cheeky brat in need of a good spanking.” Evrain grabbed a fistful of Dominic’s hair then tugged his head back. He leaned close, the scent of his breath a familiar mixture of peppermint and coffee. “You’re too gorgeous to resist.”

Dominic parted his lips, expecting a kiss, but Evrain pulled away. He wagged his finger.

“Oh no, you have to earn it.” He took a seat then poured himself a mug of coffee. A plate of sliced fruit sat in the middle of the table. He took a sliver of apple. Dominic watched, entranced, as Evrain bit into the fruit. The juice wetted his lips, making them gleam.

“What do you want me to do?” Even as he asked the question, a thrill of expectation rippled the length of Dominic’s spine.
