Blurb: Ethan Hall plans to fill Saturday, December 23, with junk food and bad TV, a day just for him amid the holiday chaos… until his baby sister calls and begs him to go collect a present for her. At the biggest shopping center in Australia. On the busiest shopping day of the year. Hell no. Right?
Ethan’s soft heart gets the best of him. He battles through the parking lot, and in the main shopping concourse, he’s trampled, elbowed, and bombarded with terrible holiday music. Then he enters hell itself, a specialty store aimed at women… where he meets Ty. They bond in a sea of estrogen and manic shoppers, fighting together to attain freedom, only to find they’re not quite ready go their separate ways.
Review: Anyone who has had the unfortunate experience of shopping on December 23rd or 24th will feel the pain of Ethan and Ty as they attempt to navigate a store for their sisters. What happens as a chance meeting ends up bringing the two men together when they discover their siblings are dating. And what could be a friendship forged through mutual sacrifice for the sake of their family ends up becoming something more as attraction builds and they decide to spend more time together.
I loved this story for not only how light-hearted and essentially drama free it was, but because, as a former retail employee, I could just imagine the hell those two men faced. I’ve also been there as a shopper, dragged out last minute by my father who needed gifts for my mother.
This story was short; at just 26 pages it was satisfying. and yet, I would happily read more about Ethan and Ty as they get to know each other and navigate their relationship alongside that of their siblings.
If you’re looking for a light-hearted, conflict free story, this is definitely the one for you. It has humor and enjoyable characters, with a good back and forth dialogue. If this were the prologue to a series, I would definitely read more. I highly recommend this story!
