At a Glance: This story managed to keep the reader on their toes without falling into the terrible trope of issues that would be resolved if only the lovers would talk to each other. Blurb: A friends-to-lovers novella that came from Out of the Shadows, because Nate and Dylan needed a story….
Nate and Dylan have been pals for a long time. So what if their friends think they’ve got a little bromance going? Doesn’t mean there’s anything more to it than that, right? And even if there is, Nate and Dylan are totally oblivious….
Until the night they share a drunken kiss—and everything changes.
Review: Bromantically Yours is a truly sweet story that leaves you feeling good. I loved how both Nate and Dylan focused on how their developing feelings would affect their friendship rather than worrying about how they would be seen if they came out. Not that their previously straight status wasn’t addressed or a concern, but it was nice to see that having to ‘come out’ wasn’t viewed negatively or as being an obstacle in their blooming relationship.
This story managed to keep the reader on their toes without falling into the terrible trope of issues that would be resolved if only the lovers would talk to each other. It was refreshing to encounter a story where the lovers kept the lines of communication open and faced things together. I think too many beginning authors sometimes fall into the trap of adding tension or drama with an internal obstacle that would be easily solved with communication.
It was clear from the start how both characters cared for each other, which made Dylan’s nervousness and desire to woo Nick adorable to watch unfold as he got out of his comfort zone and tried to really impress. Equally, Nick’s practicality when overwhelmed had me empathising and putting myself into his shoes as a practical person myself. Both tugged at my heartstrings and made me happy to see them together.
Really, this was a great standalone book that gives you a pick-me-up when needed, but it did leave me wanting to read Out of the Shadows, the story of their friend Josh’s romance, to see more of all the characters.
