Blurb: Anthony Talbot is in Anchor Point to visit family, but after two days of strife, he needs a break. A local gay bar is calling his name.
When Chief Noah Jackson sees that red head stroll into the club, he immediately wants him. They’re perfectly matched, and before long, they’re burning up the sheets. Noah can’t get enough. Anthony can’t stay in Oregon for long, but as soon as he leaves, he’s counting down the days until he can fly back for more. And between his increasingly frequent visits, there’s always phone sex, sexting, webcams….anything they can get.
But Noah’s got a carefully crafted façade, and Anthony can’t help noticing the slowly forming cracks. The scent of alcohol in the middle of the day. The extra drinks at dinner. The hint of red in his eyes. Anthony knows what it means. He doesn’t want to believe it, but he’s seen this before, and there’s no denying it. If Noah doesn’t get his downward spiral under control, he’s going to lose both his career and the first man he’s ever really loved.
Review: Anthony Talbot is visiting Anchor Point with his sister and her kids so they can spend time with their out gay dad and his new partner. Too much family time and a former alcoholic brother-in-law make Anthony long for an escape, so he hits a local gay bar and meets Chief Noah Jackson. Their banter turns to heat and then to a night of passion. It doesn’t take much to convince the men that this is not something to call just a one-night stand, so a relationship of sorts begins to develop between the two men. The one sticking point—Noah may be an alcoholic. Alcoholism destroyed his sister’s marriage, and Anthony can’t process the deepening feelings for a loving, caring man with whom he shares much joy. When Noah’s alcohol use becomes more than just a small issue, they must decide where they go next.
Nick J. Russo returns to narrate this third book in the series, and we are pleased that he has. He takes this new story and infuses it with all of the talent and attention these books deserve. Witt set up a world in a fictional Naval Air Station that doesn’t exist outside of reality. There are gay men of all ranks and types, but plenty of straight men and women wander the landscape, making these romances fun and worth reading. In the very capable hands of Nick J Russo, this world continues to grow and evolve into all corners with complete believability.
The moments of lovemaking come across fully and are not rushed. The humor is played well, and each character gets a voice all their own. Even without the audio cues of who is speaking, you are never confused because Russo’s talent is put to great use here. As with previous books in this series, past characters return to offer advice, support, or inside jokes. Their original voices are not forgotten.
This is book three in the series, but you can pick up any story in any order and not be lost or have to rely solely on past history to understand the action.
One of the best things about the Witt/Russo connection is that the voice and the words blend together like the best cake. It is sweet and bold and delightful. Buy this book, enjoy the story, love the narration. You will be very happy with this newest audio from Anchor Point.
