We’re so pleased to have author Kris T. Bethke joining us today to celebrate the release of Lost Souls Found, a new addition to Dreamspinner’s Dreamspun Beyond house line and book two in the Requiem Inc. series. She has a little insight into her MC to share with us today, and there’s also a chance for one lucky reader to win an eBook from her backlist, so be sure to check out the entry details at the end.
Welcome, Kris!
Hey there! I’m Kris T. Bethke, and I’m excited to be here today. Thanks so much to Lisa and the crew here at The Novel Approach for hosting me!
When I first started writing the Requiem Inc. series, Michael King was one of the first characters I conceived of. He needed to be a lot of things. Because, let’s face it, he kills people for a living. Not as an assassin or anything. But in order to do their jobs, ghostwalkers need to die, and someone has to shove a sword through their chest. Someone has to look out for all the operatives Requiem Inc. employs. The more I thought about all the things that person needed to be, the more Michael King took shape.
He’s a Guardian. His role is imperative. He needs to be the consummate caretaker, but he also has to have a tiny bit of distance, because he cares for so many people. As soon as he showed up on the page, he commanded the scene. And the moment I started writing him, I knew he was a telepath.
I had to take a step back at that point, and figure out how it all worked within the confines of the world I was creating. I knew I needed to make it work, though, because Michael was very definitive about the kind of man he was. And I hoped to be able to write his story in the future, so I knew I had to get him right.
When I began writing Lost Souls Found, Michael was dead set that he wouldn’t use his telepathy on Sam. He never overuses it to begin with—he knows he has a special gift that helps him do his job, but he doesn’t invade people’s privacy if he can help it. With Sam, it was something else entirely. His feelings for Sam run deep, and even though he knows he can’t act on them, he makes sure to respect Sam most of all.
But this is a romance, of course. And Michael and Sam eventually learn to how to balance things as they fall in love. Especially when Michael’s telepathy gives them an unexpected gift. It turns out that Michael and Sam are even more well suited than either of them imagined. If they can just get past the tough parts, of course.
I really enjoyed writing Michael. He’s one of my favorite characters that I’ve ever written. He’s not always easy, but he has a heart of gold. Being able to see into people’s thoughts is only one part of him.
Lost Souls Found is out now. I hope you get a chance to check it out!

Blurb: Dying is all in a day’s work. Love is more dangerous.
Ghostwalker Sam Jones has been half in love with Michael King since he started working at Requiem Inc. But Michael is his boss and a Guardian, to boot. Sam thinks they could make it work anyway, but Michael uses his position and his age to keep Sam at arm’s length.
When Sam continues to volunteer for the most dangerous cases, Michael has to intervene. He tells himself he’s just doing his job, but he’s always seen Sam as more than another operative, and he can’t bear the thought of not taking his chance. The connection between them has been strong from the beginning, and Michael’s telepathy adds unexpected depth and an edge to their new romance, but working together while they try to build their relationship might be the hardest part of their job if they don’t make some sacrifices.
About the Author
Kris T. Bethke has been a voracious reader for pretty much her entire life and has been writing stories for nearly as long. An avid and prolific daydreamer, she always has a story in her head. She spends most of her free time reading, writing, or knitting/crocheting her latest project. Her biggest desire is to find a way to accomplish all three tasks at one time. A classic muscle car will always turn her head, and naps on the weekend are one of her greatest guilty pleasures. She lives in a converted attic with a way too fluffy cat and the voices in her head. She’ll tell you she thinks that’s a pretty good deal. Kris believes that love is love, no matter the gender of people involved, and that all love deserves to be celebrated.

Congratulations on the release, Kris. I love paranormal stories, so this sound like a story I would certainly enjoy
Congratulations on your new release Kris, the book sounds really good and I’ve added it to my wish list.
I just bought the first one in the series–can’t wait to read it!
I really enjoyed His Needs. I’m looking forward to these ones too!
I thought Michael was a jerk, but he kind of improved, in a one step forward, one step back way. I liked Sam, who turned out to be less self-destructive than I originally thought. I’d recommend the book to those who like paranormal romance. An arrogant alphahole protagonist is not my thing, but some readers love it. Sam had a backbone, though, and stood up for himself when Michael’s alphahole tendencies got out of control. I enjoyed the world-building in this series, how there’s this whole system set up to help lost spirits.
sounds like an intriguing series!
Congrats on the new book release! It sounds like an interesting series
