Title: His Secret Admirer
Author: Edward Kendrick
Publisher: JMS Books
Length: 164 Pages

At a Glance: Edward Kendrick delivers a quick and easy read with a little suspense and smatterings of humor, but this is more an in-depth look at both Jim and Alan in that they each get a chance to tell their own stories.

Blurb: When the first note shows up at the restaurant where he works — when he isn’t designing costumes for a local theater — Jim Foster laughs it off. When the notes keep coming, he doesn’t find the fact that he might have a secret admirer quite so amusing.
Alan North, a lonely, bookish customer at the restaurant, is too shy to even think of talking to Jim — as much as he wants to.
Then the killings begin. Two of Jim’s friends are murdered in what appear to be muggings. However, the detective in charge of the cases believes they’re more than that, and that Jim is either the killer … or being stalked by one.
When Jim and Alan finally connect, can they help find and stop the stalker, or will Alan end up dead before their budding relationship can become more than friendship?
Review: Jim Foster is a hard worker. He’s not only holding down a job waiting tables, but he also designs costumes for his theatre group. When he and his co-workers discover that someone has been leaving anonymous notes for him at the coffee shop, he doesn’t think too much about it. Until one of his friends dies.
Alan North is shy and feels unnoticeable, but he has noticed Jim and has been leaving messages for him. Alan is semi-stalkerish and really wants Jim to notice him, so he starts showing up in places where he thinks Jim will be. When Jim and Alan finally meet and start to spend some time together, Alan begins to open up.
Both he and Jim have to be careful, though, because there’s a real stalker out there.
In my opinion, the mystery itself takes a backseat to the gradual relationship building between the characters in His Secret Admirer. Edward Kendrick delivers a quick and easy read with a little suspense and smatterings of humor, but this is more an in-depth look at both Jim and Alan in that they each get a chance to tell their own stories.
