Blurb: Brought together by fate, torn apart by family.
Rachel Tregarrak, Penwith pack beta and daughter of the alpha, has always called the rugged Cornish coast her home. With its beautiful landscapes, bracing sea air, and vast spaces to run, she can’t imagine living anywhere else.
After years of living with her mother in her grandfather’s pack, Sara Gallen returns to Penzance to be with her alpha father and her brothers. She wants to build their relationships, get to know the rest of her family better than occasional visits allow.
When their paths cross on the full moon, the attraction is immediate and instinctive. But Sara’s father refuses to allow such a union and forbids any further contact. Sara finds solace with her grandmother in her alpha council residence, and Rachel is sent to a London pack to keep her out of trouble. Both women feel the desperate ache of an uncompleted bond, but unless they find a way to be together, it’ll fade to nothing and their connection will be lost.
Review: Readers meet Rachel Tregarrak, a beta in the Penwith Pack, in Bitten by the Alpha, when she was taken in by Alpha Cameron Harley and the Regent’s Park Pack on a temporary basis after having been forbidden to mate with, let alone be in contact with, Sara Gallen from a neighboring pack. While there’s been a whole alternate reality built throughout this predominantly M/M series, including the pack politics and how the Regent’s Park Pack came to absorb some of the members of the former Primrose Hill Pack, I wouldn’t say it’s strictly necessary to have read those other books to enjoy Bitten by Her. Annabelle Jacobs offers just enough detail in the plot to allow this F/F novel to stand on its own within the series as a lovely and touching romance.
Bitten by Her has a bit of a Romeo and Juliet feel to it. Sara and Rachel are fated mates—they know this on a soul deep, wolf instinct level—but Sara’s pack alpha father won’t stand for his daughter mating with a woman. Her duty to him and his pack is definitive: to procreate and further his lineage. He forbids their bonding to the point he’s willing to barter Sara off to Rachel’s brother instead, but he settles for threatening Rachel’s father and the Penwith Pack with violence to keep the two women apart, infringing upon a family connection which draws unwanted attention from the Alpha Council in the process. Alpha Gallen has some archaic notions about a woman’s place in the world—this did not endear him to me (understatement)—which, in turn, brings into sharp focus the element of the forbidden in both the storyline and Sara and Rachel’s relationship, and I was invested in their bond all the more for it. After all, what’s not to love about seeing two people who belong together, longing for and fighting to make it happen?
“We hardly know each other… and yet…”
“It feels like I’ve known you forever.”
It’s the epitome of the happily ever after, the payoff for the emotional investment on the part of the reader, and Sara and Rachel were fortunate to have some powerful allies on their side.
Sexy, sensual, and rife with the painful yearning of a wolf for her absent mate, which Jacobs conveys so unmistakably, this book hits all the right romantic notes. I also loved seeing how Rachel is fitting in as a temporary beta in the Regent’s Park Pack, and hope to see more of her and Sara in future books. I also think we get a tease for the next pairing in the series, which, based on what’s here, promises to offer up some delicious tension and conflict of its own.
Bitten by Her is a beautiful love story, achingly heart-warming in return for the conflict the two women endure along the way. It’s a fantastic addition to this -verse.
