Welcome to a double-header Cover Reveal from author Rhys Ford! Rhys is here to unveil the covers for two novellas, Cops and Comix and Tutus and Tinsel, both coming soon from Dreamspinner Press. And be sure to check out the giveaway details below too!
Hello everyone and thank you for having me back here at The Novel Approach! I am excited to bring you news of what’s happening during the fourth quarter of 2018. Not only do I have Savior, the second book of the 415 Ink series coming out on September 18 as well as the Devil Take Me anthology being published on October 16 where I share the pages with an illustrious list of genre superstars; Jordan L Hawk, TA Moore, Jordan Castillo Price, Ginn Hale and CS Poe, but I also have two short stories to keep you company in November and December.
The first is Cops and Comix a reissue of a short story that once lived in the Grand Adventures anthology. It actually is the introduction of Alex Martin, Rook’s cousin from the Murder and Mayhem series, and the murder in his comic book shop that introduced him to his future husband, Detective James Castillo. I’m excited to be able to offer this as a standalone short and it also gives me the opportunity perhaps to expand on their relationship in future short stories. I feel like there’s a lot to explore between the two of them and their relationship is so different from Rook Stevens and Dante Montoya, it’s an interesting way to have a look at the other characters in that series.
The short story will be out on November 16 and hasn’t been modified in any way from its original appearance in the anthology. But, this does allow you to have Alex and James standalone if you’ve already purchased the full anthology and if you haven’t, it will be a good insight into Rook’s more conservative and sweeter cousin.
In December I take you back to Half Moon Bay as we revisit with Deacon, Lang, and their now-adopted daughter Zig. This short novella is about Zig coming to terms with her past and finding her own sense of family amid a very tradition-rich holiday season. I wanted to bring a semi sweet holiday tale to life, featuring a family whose struggles to come together are burdened not by any lack of love but rather missing what a lot of families possess, a long heritage of familial traditions and a sense of normal. I invite you to visit with the Reid-Harris family as they band together to help Zig find a place in her heart for the holidays.
Cops and Comix
An Alex Martin and James Castillo Short Story (Murder and Mayhem series)
It’s all fun and games until someone leaves a dead body on the floor.
Life for comic book store owner Alex Martin usually runs to the mundane. Sure, he has a regular influx of geeks and freaks, but for the most part, it’s a familiar weird. That all changes when he opens up Planet X Comics one morning and finds a corpse in the middle of his shop.
When Detective James Castillo is called in to investigate, Alex is torn between wanting to climb the man like a tree and giving him a wide berth. Luckily for Alex, the handsome detective is just as interested in him—as a suspect in the murder.
To be published on November 16 by Dreamspinner Press
Tutus and Tinsel
A Half Moon Bay Holiday-ish Short Novella
Zig Reid-Harris has everything an eleven-year-old girl could ever want; a great home, two fantastic fathers named Deacon Reid and Lang Harris and all the books she could possible read.
When a school assignment about holiday traditions unexpectedly broadsides her, she’s discovered burying the past isn’t as easy as it looks and the stark reality of her life before her adoption sinks in. Ashamed of the bleakness and poverty she’d come from, Zig struggles with the assignment until an epiphany strikes the whole family; it was time for them to start their own traditions.
Zig and her fathers plunge into the insanity of holiday joy, exploring everything the season has to offer and ultimately, learn how precious family truly is along the way.

Rhys Ford is an award-winning author with several long-running LGBT+ mystery, thriller, paranormal, and urban fantasy series and is a two-time LAMBDA finalist with her Murder and Mayhem novels. She is published by Dreamspinner Press and DSP Publications.
She’s also quite skeptical about bios without a dash of something personal and really, who doesn’t mention their cats, dog and cars in a bio?
