Blurb: Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones finally has everything he ever wanted. He’s head-over-heels in love and married to the man of his dreams, his partner Ian Doyle, he’s doing well at work, and all his friends are in good places as well. Things are all tied up nicely…until they’re not.
Change has never been easy for Miro, and when situations at work force the team he’s come to depend on to break apart, and worst of all, his and Ian’s individual strengths put them on two separate paths, he’s pretty certain everything just went up in smoke.
But before he can even worry about the future, his past comes for a visit, shaking his world up even more. It’s hard to tell what road he should truly be on, but as he learns some paths are forged and others are discovered, it might be that where he’s going is the right course after all. If he can navigate all the twists and turns, he and Ian might just get their happily ever after.
Review: Miro Jones is finally getting everything he wants. Married to his partner, Ian Doyle, they now live and work together as husbands. Ian is no longer at the beck and call of his mysterious Marine unit. The boys they have taken under their wing seem settled and happy. Work seems to be the best ever. Until…in just a few days, that all changes. Friends are reassigned, husbands are detailed to different units, and their boys face growing pains any young men might encounter, but in witness protection could spell real trouble.
This is book four in the Marshals series, and there has been a lot of history, including a serial killer and some really pissed off criminals who would like nothing more than to break Miro and Ian into tiny pieces. Having a boss who knows instinctively who is best at doing some pretty difficult things leads to an epic breaking up of the band scenario that actually turns them into more of a symphony. Naturally, rigid and content Miro wants to fight it but in the end, understands this is for the best.
Tristan James returns for this new installment, and by now listener should be used to his rather unique pronunciations. Once you get past those, the story is good—the action is great and the story goes on, even though the series is ending. James has taken us on the entire ride. This is a lovely wrap-up—with loose ends, because that’s how life is—but James leaves us hopeful for one and all.
Enjoy the performance here as the author has no plans to return to this world. Buy the book to complete the series. Buy the book because the narration is fun, fine, and tension filled. This is an enjoyable ride, even if it does leave you heart thumping wildly from time to time. Look for other books by both Mary Calmes and Tristan James.
